Production is terrible and generic (and it's looped over and over and over again) and she just screams and screams over it. There's no discernible melody or structure.

I don't know.
I haven't heard the record but I remember people HATED "Dirrty" when it first came out and though it wasn't a big chart success the song hung around forever, became a club banger and is now possibly her signature record.

Dirrty had a beat. But it didn't really hang around. It was a total bomb on the US charts, and then they rushed out Beautiful and saved the record. I would argue Beautiful is a much more signature record for her. If you want the link, send me an orgnote. [Edited 6/2/06 20:48pm]

It doesn't sound too bad...but it's definitely missing something.
Like the loop, but there needs to be something else going on. Hell, some tambourines during the first chorus could have did something. Dunno, it's gotta grow on me. I can picture her looking like Betty Bop in a music video, though. Ooh, little darlin' if you're

Everything you say is true, but it seems like after "Beautiful" hit, the stations started playing "Dirrty" again. Even now you'll hear a station play "Dirrty" once in a while, an astonishing coincidence considering the initial negative reaction.

I think a lot of people forgave her for that song after she brought out some tolerable videos. I mean dancing in urinals? Chaps? This was supposed to be sexy? I was repulsed by that video.

Talk about your hot messes! That video was something else. Blame whoever gave Dave LaChappelle free reign. He's the texbook definition of Infant Terrible! Within limits he can be visionary. Without them he can be pitiful! I'll have to pass on the track (a good thing?) for my system is unfamiliar with the concept of power.

I haven't made a Britney / J Simpson thread since the summer of 2005. But I'm sure jw1914 will be riding my ass for this thread [Edited 6/2/06 22:08pm]

This actually sounds a lot like some Premie mixes of old songs now that I think of it.

You're right about "Dirrty" still being pumped in the dance clubs. I've been hearing it regularly @ nightspots all over the U.S. for years now. The song is still played like it came out yesterday. It's a bonafide noughties song.

The song becomes repetitive at some point. however, I think it's fresh. There's nothing on the radio like it. So I have to give he an A for the freshness...even though the song could use an edited version. LOL.

The whole concept of making an album inspired by the 20s, 30s and 40s with slick hip-hop producers sounded awful and I have an idea it will be.

Ditto. It doesn't sound right at all. I look forward to hearing this track which I'm sure will be all over the place by the end of the month. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

So THAT'S why there's this 30s style sample in there. Too bad it gets lost inbetween the hollering and awful synth sounds. And she sings "Ain't no other man" as if it were one word, but the rest sounds sluggish. Screaming does not equate energy, Xtina. Shame. "She made me glad to be a man"
