Name Artists or Bands who don't have an Avant-Garde or Experimental bone in their body

they never deviate from the norm, don't want to, couldn't even if they wanted to or will never try. Musically and Artistically.

I love those guys, but they had a formula, and they stuck to it like flies on shit. It worked for them, though, so who's complaining?

Are you saying this is Avant Garde? I haven't heard it, but that would surprise me.

From what norm? I can think of artists who stick to their stengths (Sade), but that wasn't really the "norm" throughout the years.

Avant Garde?
No.

Experimental for him?
From a writing perspective I'd say so.

What is Avant-Garde or Experimental in Gorillaz music actually?

The fact that they "are cartoons" is not enough.

Their music is very imitative.

co-sign! "Hate" is a strong word but geez, I want them all to implode. Especially Nickelback and Rob Thomas - they're robbing me of my will to live sigh

Pretty much all of Demon Days is innovative, fresh stuff. "All Alone" and "White Light" are part of the norm? "Fire Coming Out of a Monkey's Head" is your typical pop fodder? "Don't Get Lost in Heaven" and "Demon Days" are your typical gospel-tinged songs? "Every Planet We Reach Is Dead" is a rehash? Please!

Certainly, Gorillaz (and EVERYONE else) have shown the influence of others, but if you're going to pick on a trendy band for being unoriginal, Gorillaz should be way far down on that list.

Even if you thought his music was derivative (though I think it's still very creative), his lyrics are pretty original.

I'm going to have to completely disagree about Duran Duran, even though I'm sick to death of them. They really created their own genre in the 80s.

How?

The sound they've cultivated is most definitely theirs. Plus, they took risks with Achtung, Baby, Zooropa and Pop.
