I think "Killing Me Softly" is the glue that holds the album together. I wouldn't dream of comparing it to the original, but I love how he put his stamp on it. Bobby's standout cuts: "Don't Be Cruel", "My Prerogative", "Roni", "Rock Wit'Cha", "Every Little Step You Take"
Guy's standout cuts: "Groove Me", "Teddy's Jam", "Piece of My Love", "Goodbye Love", "Spend The Night" NOw, How can you mention the 'guy' album w/o mentioning 'I like'? Come one...the best on the whole disc. Guy, hands down.

There's too much LaFace and not enough Teddy Riley to make this a true New Jack Swing competition. A better battle would be between Guy and Make It Last Forever. Guy's album is still my favorite, but those are the kings of the NJS IMO. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Yeah, looking back on the B. Brown album you're right. That being said, Babyface and L.A. really hit the jackpot on "Don't Be Cruel" (the song). That song is still smokin' hot! "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I gotta give it to the Guy album.
And, I really dug "DBC," but the production and singing on Guy just put it over the top for me. Teddy was coming from a different, grittier production angle with that album. LaFace, with all their great production sounds, were a little cutesier, a little closer to mainstream pop. Maybe it's the new-gospel chord voicings that TR used in a lot of his songs ("I Like," for one). His programming was top-notch, too. It's a tough call, but I go with the Guy album.
