Hunger, innocence, top-notch songwriting, explosive funk and soul, gorgeous vocals.... this kicks "Thriller"'s ass. If you want MJ's TRUE peak, there you go.

Yes, it's true. That's the one Michael Jackson album that I do still enjoy.

Sad but true and funny: Whenever I hear "Do You Remember The Times" I ALWAYS think of the "Off The Wall" times. lol

I think the most rational explanation for the difference between his great Off the Wall/Thriller days and now can be found here - http://www.theonion.com/c...node/30940

You summed this album up better than I ever could. This was Michael's most accomplished and tightly constructed album. This was definitely his peak! My favorite cut on this masterpiece would have to be "I Can't Help It", which is his best vocal performance, in my opinion. Thriller might've been a little more epic, stunning and diverse, but Off The Wall still blows that whole album out of the water in terms of production.

I agree - his vocal performance on I Can't Help It is sublime. I think that another of his underrated songs, Lady In My Life, is another one that is often overlooked, especially towards the end of it.

Yeah, Lady In My Life is definitely underrated also. I mean, this and I Can't Help It was just mindblowing because of the way Michael sang them.

It's as pure as purity gets when it comes 2 the fusion of michael jackson and rnb. Brilliant. No bullshit, just great vocals and true spirit on there.

The beautiful thing about OTW is that it came across so natural and spontaneous. There was very little hype surrounding the release of it, MJ didn't come across as calculating and contrieved and best of all he actually sang as oppose to shouting and growling....and then he did Thriller, which was also great and after that everything changed for the worse. neutral

I mean if you look at it, Thriller and Off The Wall are little on the same level artistically, but Off The Wall's flawless production and Michael's classic vocal performances makes it 10 times better than Thriller alone, IMHO.

Off The Wall is my favorite MJ album. There was no pressure to make the biggest selling album of all time and in the late 70's, it was all about dancing, the disco period, and Michael took hold of it and ran. Not on bad song on there. I miss the "real" Michael Jackson. Thank God I can go back to this CD (and Thriller) and find him there.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
