I think Timbaland makes better beats, especially the work he did with Aaliyah's "One In A Million" album.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

TIMBALAND
tho' I battled blind
love is a fate resigned
memories mar my mind
love it is a fate resigned

Over futile odds
and laughed at by the Gods
and now the final frame
Love is a losing game

Timbaland all the way! Doesn't Kanye West just speed up old records? I think what Tim does proabably requires more skillz...

It is the producer's role to bring the best out of an artist.

I think they have both been successful in bringing the best out of the artists they have collaborated with.

Timbaland had some cool beats/sound effects, yet they didn't obscure the song. Whenever I hear anything by Kanye West, my first reaction is, "wait a minute - what song is that he's sampling/speeding up?"

My vote goes to Timbaland. Easy. I heard he's like Mr. Olympia now with all the muscles 'n stuff...

As producers, i hate em both equally.

Timbaland is one major reason for the plastification of soul which has resulted in songs that basically only consist of overproduced beats and vocal over it but no harmonies or song structure.

And Kayne is just another overrated hype - for my ears he sounds almost exactly like P.Diddy, especially on his own records plus the formula he uses is just the same lots of commercial producers use nowadays which is take a sample from a wellknown classic, spice up the beats, put a vocal hookline over it and fill the gaps with some hiphop lyrics. That's the same formula Diddy and others used and are using so i don't see why Kayne should be so special as a producer.

Now Pharrell for instance is a different thing.

they are both shit.. simple as that.. a monkey on heroin can program an Akai mpc and speed up a hook to an old soul record and be called a genius.

I dont think so. Examples-- "Supa Dupa Fly" and the two albums by Bubba Sparxxx.

Timbaland creates his own original old school sounds i.e. "Old School Joint" - Missy and "promiscuous Girl" - Nelly Furtado

HE REALLY suprised me making Bobby Valentinos - "Tell Me" and "Slow Down"

Timbaland. Tim was actually a drummer in a band with Pharrell and Chad.

Kanye takes beats and speeds/slows them down.

Tim (Kelly) and Bob (Robinson) produced the Bobby Valentino songs.
And Missy "Old School Joint" is a sample of the One Way song "Pop It"

But I like all the songs. And I'm looking forward to the Nelly Furtado album.

And speaking of the Miss E. album, I notice there are no sample credits for One Way nor Sly and the Family Stone for the song X-tacy, which uses a sample of the Sly song: "In Time" from the Fresh album.

Unless I can't see the credits- the type is so small. But I always found that interesting this wasn't pointed out.

I figured that too, there are also no credits in the Under Construction album. Though Gossip Folks are clearly using Double Dutch Bus.

But I am takin a guess the rights are reserved.

The first time I heard "In Time" I was like..so that wasnt so much of a production from TImbaland..other than the backwards use of the drum track

You know I never paid attention to the credits in Under Construction either. I didn't see that. I wonder how they're able to do that, since I thought samples had to clearly be stated in the liner notes.

I'm sure that the labels cleared those samples. You just can't get away with that these days.

Every sample clearance agreement is different. Most deals require that but not every single one.

Sometimes instead of listing the sample, you can see writing or publishing credited and that's a good hint too. Like Biggie's "Hypnotize" doesn't like "Rise" by Herb Alpert as a sample but hey one of the writers is Alpert so you know he got paid.

Timbaland no contest...
I can understand anyone denying Kanye, but to liken what Timbaland does to a monkey programming an MPC... that's bullshit. That's like saying any idiot could program drums like 777-9311 or Stevie's synth programming never resulted in any signature sound. rolleyes

You're right, I didn't see the "Rise" sample listed, but Herb's name is there.
