That 'Passage' album isn't their greatest moment. The album also includes the wiggy 'Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft'. They didn't make another album for four years after this one, obviously due to personal problems.

Can't say I know the Carpenters version, but this is likely a cover of Michael Franks tune from SLEEPING GYPSY (1977). It's about a time he had Dan Hicks housesitting for him. The beat is not really funk, it's Brazilian
