CALLING ALL NEW JACK SWINGERS!: BOBBY BROWN'S "DONT BE CRUEL" VS GUY'S "GUY" VS
Along with Al B. Sure's "Nite and Day", these 2 albums ushered in the New Jack Swing era, easily the 2 biggest New Jack Swing albums ever...now it's time to measure them up against each other: Bobby's standout cuts: "Don't Be Cruel", "My Prerogative", "Roni", "Rock Wit'Cha", "Every Little Step You Take" Guy's standout cuts: "Groove Me", "Teddy's Jam", "Piece of My Love", "Goodbye Love", "Spend The Night" Now, IMO this easily goes to Guy because you can listen to their shit all the way through while B. Brown has a few fillers on his shit. Both great albums but someone has to win and in this case it's Guy. Plus, Teddy produced B. Brown's biggest hit on that album "My Prerogative" so that just about sums it up. New Jacker Swingas, chime in for your opinion! (But damn, looking back over B. Brown's top 5 cuts on his album...his shit looks a lot stronger than Guy's top 5 cuts! LOL! Oops! But I'm STILL stickin' to my guns and calling the winner Guy!...I think? ) Living to die and I'll die to live again - 360 degrees - comprehend

U hit it right on the head. Bobby's five do look stronger but Guy as an album still holds up...Goodby Love-damn, Bobby could never do that...The 12" of Rock Witcha was great but still GUY get's the win...and I think it was LA & Babyface's production skills as well as Teddy Riley that made the album as good as it was...

Damn!! StoneCrib, I like them both , but if I gotta choose I'll go with Bobby because every cut on that album was slamming (hope you get it together Bobby) . Much respect due to Teddy Riley, Aaron and Damon Hall .

Yeah, it IS a tough call! You know what's the weird thing? Damien wasn't even on the debut album. The "guy" on the cover is Timmy Gatling and he left right after they finished the album...it's hilarious that he's even on the cover but never performed any of the songs after it was released. I bet Gatling feels like the dude that left the Beatles! LOL! Living to die and I'll die to live again - 360 degrees - comprehend

You didn't even mention my favorite Guy track ("I Like") as a standout, but I doubt there are more than a few people who could name another track on Bobby's album. Guy is an exceptional album while Don't Be Cruel is a collection of great songs and filler. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I don't think I even bothered to get Bobby Brown or New Edition on CD. Of course I love those songs from back in the day.
But give me Guy anytime! Jaaaaam Ohhh jaa-a-aaammm

But give me Guy anytime! Jaaaaam Ohhh jaa-a-aaammm thats weird! I dont have New Edition NE HEartbreak CD either. I only every had it on vinyl and cassette. I refuse to pick up the CD of Hearbreak, it may not sound as good...and that other added on song, i didnt like it much. "Superlady" or something. I actually bought Guy and Bobby Browns CD's around the same time though. Like 1996 They both horridly needs remastering as all the old MCA CD's do. Though the original mix is highly better. I have the 12" u know its funky too. The 12" of Groove Me is better than the original to me. Take It Slow....the only song I skip on that cd I skip My Business and Just Dance on Guy unfortunatley. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Bobby Brown
Don't Be Cruel My Prerogative Roni Rock Wit'cha Every Little Step Guy Groove Me Teddy's Jam You Can Call Me Crazy I Like Round And Round When you take into consideration LA & Babyface had most of the Guy organization in on the production of Don't Be Cruel (the album), i'd consider it a wash for New Jack cred. The Guy influence is obvious as the basic grooves of My Prerogative and Round And Round are the same. Don't Be Cruel probably has the edge for having better songs overall due to the LA/Babyface factor. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. It is easily Don't Be Cruel with the exception of Take It Slow, the rest of the LP is easily classincs, with Guy, you have to get rid of You Can Call Me Crazy(you can tell Teddy stole this track from Al B Sure!) and you have to get rid of My Business these two tracks aren't good tracks while on DBC you only have to get rid of one.
AND DIDNT GUY AND BOBBY BROWN tour 2gether on the My Prerogative tour, imagine that tour was like Guy and Bobby had the best live show sans anybody not named Jacko,Prince or Hammer.

Well, according to the liner notes, Teddy only arranged the album version (Al co-wrote it with Tim Gatling and produced it). Teddy produced and arranged the remix and received a co-writing credit. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
