Led Zeppelin Any fans here. I became one awhile back by being exposed to them a number of different ways. I was just wondering because I wanted to get into and hear more of their stuff and learn more about them. I was wanting to know if you know of any good sites with some good info on them as far as stuff like When they were formed, how long they stayed together, why they broke up and like the best or most essential recordings of theirs to have.
Right now I only have a few songs by them that i've heard but i'd love to get into more of their stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated. "Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

Big Zeppelin fan, don't really know about their sites. Do you know about The Yardbirds, that's a good place to start in terms of history. I suggest buying all the albums from first to last, but if you had to buy one right now it should be Physical Graffiti. A perfect double album that doesn't quit! What songs have you heard so far?

The Remasters 4 cd box was my introduction to Zeppelin and you should be able to pick it up at a very reasonable price. Every home should have one, as well as the DVD set which is jaw droppingly fantastic.

My favorites are II, III, Houses of the Holy, and Physical Graffiit. I've heard IV so many times that it's totally lost all meaning to me. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

Right now I only have a few songs by them that i've heard but i'd love to get into more of their stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The band formed in 1968, and started out orginally under the name The New Yardbirds since Jimmy Page was trying to re-group the Yardbirds. He got all new band members and changed the name to Led Zeppelin. The band existed for 12 years. As for your question about why they broke up, their drummer John Bonham (Bonzo) died in 1980. From that moment on, they were no longer a band since he was irreplaceable. I'd suggest their first 6 albums to start with. Led Zeppelin I Led Zeppelin II Led Zeppelin III Led Zeppelin IV (or Zoso, or "The Four Symbols" album) Houses of the Holy Physical Graffiti Their other 3 studio albums that followed are probably best appreciated by diehard fans. This is an awesome Zeppelin site: http://www.led-zeppelin.com/home.html They have great forums in the message board section, and also a "newbie" forum that houses all the threads with any basic questions about the bands that most new fans want to ask. (I'm a regular there, but I'm not saying under which name I post ) "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

Agreed. Well, if you like rehased and retreaded, mediocre and exponentially over-rated music, then yes, I would agree as well.

With respect to your opinion, I'm just trying to understand it. The media were consistently critical of the band while selling out stadiums so “over-rated” is confusing to me unless you’re referring to how popular they still are after disbanding in 1980. "Mediocre", all right I guess you're not a musician because music was written and written with quality in mind. "Rehased", I think you're saying "rehashed" and I would agree with that on the first album (being mostly blues covers) but everything else was original and people have been imitating it since.

I think my favorite song of theirs is "Houses Of the Holy", although it doesn't seem to appear on the album of that name (and that is a great funky album but would be better with that track).
