One of my favorite bands of all time.

All first 5 are my fave albums...can't say which one in particular...but Physical Graffiti, III, & House of the Holy get played the most at the moment. But I love I,II, & IV, just as much. I like Presence alot too but it doesn't have the flow like the others. In Through The Outdoor isn't bad...its more of a Robert Plant solo album imo...I don't hear those addicting Jimmy Page riffs as much (and I heard Page wasn't too involved with it...wasn't battling heroin addiction?).

How the West Was Won is also a must. Those extended live versions of Whole Lotta Love & Bring it on Home are just awesome.

Agreed when it comes to the live stuff I've heard from Zep, even though I don't like The Who, they sound better live than on wax, Zep sounds better on record to me

Well, I'm no huge Who fan either, but I think Daltrey might be one of the best rock vocalists ever. Plant is good, and definitely very influential, but he just has the tendency to get too shrill. When I think of Plant's voice, I think of those first few notes from Immigrant Song .

As much as I ADORE Zepp as a band, at times Plant's vocals really get on my nerves. He oversings on some cuts and when he goes into his Joplin thing, ...man. I'm like like Robert, leave that for Janis.

Oh, definately John on drums IF you're looking for a "in the pocket" drummer. He was one of the funkiest drummers ever. Keith was an insanely talented drummer. As far as just straight out skill, I would give it to Keith. Pete was one of the best songwriters in rock. Very versatile. But, he couldn't fuck with Page as a "guitarist". Page, also was a great songwriter, when it came to riffs. Not a true songwriter, cuz he didn't write lyrics, Plant did. Not the case in Pete's case. He wrote lyrics and music. Pete and Page were both great leaders and producers. Entwistle was a great rock bassist. John Paul was that as well, but waaay more versatile. His keyboard work was paramount to Zepp's sound. More talented, J.P. was, so I go with him on that.

Robert's voice does get on my nerves at times (I have said this many times before when discussing Zeppelin), but it's just what makes him unique IMO. Many of my favorite artists, including Zeppelin, have singers, or ARE singers that have fairly annoying voices.

Off the top of my head, I'd have to name: Robert Smith of The Cure, Marc Bolan of T. Rex, Jeff Buckley, Melanie Safka, Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys, HR of Bad Brains, Morrissey, Bowie, Jim Morrison, The Beatles (in their early off-key harmonizing days), Perry Farrell, Joni Mitchell (at times), MICK JAGGER! , Donald Fagan of Steely Dan, and Thom Yorke of Radiohead to name more than a few.

These are all favorite artists of mine, yet they all have very unique, and at times grating, whiny, wailing, or just plain annoying voices IMO. It's the music that attracts me to them and I'm able to overlook their vocal idiosyncrasies. They all have that love them or hate them kind of voices.

In fact, I just had to go and play something by The Who just so I could remember what Roger Daltrey sounds like. His voice just never sticks in my mind, and to me is somewhat boring. But that's mostly just because they were never a band that I got into at all, so I can't even really compare the whole Who vs. Zeppelin thing that always comes up.* Oh, but Keith Moon was a good friend of Bonzo's and he did play with Zeppelin a couple of times during the '77 tour, during the encores.







*That said, I'll bet the I'll become this huge fan of The Who now. Whenever I say that I don't particularly like an artist, THAT is the artist that I'll start listening to just to double check my original opinion. Ah, such is the way of me.
