Alanis went OFF on her debut song from her fantastic album "Jagged Little Pill". "You Oughta Know" is easily one of the best songs from a female artist in the last 15 years. Alanis has more talent in one finger than many of all the other female artists combined. Her vocals are SO on point, it's not even funny. The pre-chorus of the song is the true highlight. This too is the section where Flea from the Peppers shows his funk chops.

"Cause the joke that you laid in the bed that was me
And I'm not going to fade
As soon as you close your eyes and you know it"

BUT here's the lyric that's OFF the hook;

"And everytime I scratch my nails down someone else's back
I hope you feel it....Can you feel it?"

Alanis sounds so good and sexy, a part of my body stands erect...Damn, did I just say that?..Oh well, whatever. This song is bumpin' something serious. When this first came out, I knew this girl was something special and DEFINATELY someone to reckon with. And she's hella cute to boot. Anyway, who else out there digs this song?

nod This is a great album

Admired her skills.... biggrin

Very talented...

There it is, Pill!

I wore out Jagged Little Pill for about six months and then I threw it out. lol Not because it was a bad album, but just because it was everydamnwhere. Everyone was talking about this song when it was out, be it because they loved it, thought it was anti-male, couldn't get enough of it, disliked her singing voice...the list goes on. The song made an impression, that's for sure. But now, when I hear the lyrics "Are you thinking of me when you f@ck her," or "Would she go down on you in a theatre," and remember that it's about this guy...

...I kinda throw up in my mouth a little.

Whaaat?! Alanis was dating THIS cat?! That's who's the song about?! Damn, Rip. U done blew my imagery of the song and shit.

lol It seems so. She's said that she'll never tell who it was about, but it's generally assumed the song is about Coulier.

I thought it was Sinead at first, but I thought "Finally Sinead's doing something exciting again!"

Alanis showed a lot of promise, and Jagged Little Pill is good pop, but I got real tired of her real fast.

She wasn't ever able to make great pop songs again like she (and Glen Ballard) did on that album.

I like her cover of Seal's Crazy, though.

That's what makes the world go round, right? Good thing that we're all different, cuz baby, if we were all the same, what a boring ass world this would be.

Yeah, you're right. Her first joint was her best. She probably had a few years to write the material before it came out. Then, when it was time to cut her follow-up, she didn't have enough good material ready. Happens all the time to folks.

Oh shit, that ain't no thang! No black off my skin, player. I'll probably write a lot more threads on here that u won't agree with. Personally, I prefer that over everybody jumping on board and shit, saying how much they love the song you're talking about. It's a lot of songs I purposely don't pick for fear of that very thing happening.

Remember, I'm the cat that wrote the thread on "Rock and Roll Nigger" by Patti Smith.

I think she was probably more inspired, as well. She was changeing her image, and she must have known she was onto something good. Rock music was much healthier then, too.

I also wonder if she took more control of the follow up material but should have had collaborators?
