What would Snoop doggy dog be without P funk?

I just heard the new song from Snoop. He is acting like he is all that. But tell me, What does snoop add to the P funk samples? Does he really think he is that great like he say in the rap? If he s that great, then y he cant come up with a new sound.

Yeah west coast rap was formed on P-Funk (Overall sampled second sampled only to James Brown) samples but that isn't to say Snoop isn't a talented MC. He benefits greatly from having a distinctive flow...

"Doggystyle" alone guarantees him legendary status in hip-hop history.

I don't even like rap, but I got no complaints with Snoop, Dre and esepcially not TOO SHORT. West Coast rap knows they stole their funk from the MOTHERSHIP! I ain't mad at 'em. fro

Indeed, his flow is so smooth, it fits right in the groove.

Both Dre & Snoop would either be DEAD OR IN JAIL without
P-Funk..

Janeau
You make a good point here, & it's the reason why I dislike most rap/hip-hop:

yeah, there is often "lyrical creativity"
BUT
as most rappers ARE NOT MUSICIANS, there is no creative music process- they just take a part (or parts) of someone else's song, loop it, & put it over a drum machine beat.

That's the WORST legacy of rap, in my opinion:
very few of today's "artists" want to be REAL musicians.
But then again, with all the technolgy.. WHY BOTHER!
It takes TOO LONG to learn music theory, scales, keys, chord progressions, etc.
You can get paid (& then laid) much faster by talking over someone else's music playing over a fake drum beat.

What I'm also noticing now, strangely enough-
a lot of rappers are now starting to rap in a "melodic" way, ALMOST like their trying to.. "sing"
Classic example:
the OMNI-PRESENT Ja Rule.
(Is there anybody's song that this nigga AIN'T on these days???)
Granted..
I am FAR from being anything that even vaguely resembles a "hip-hop expert"..
but I have the impression that Ja Rule's rapping skills are "sub-par," & to sort of compensate for that he developed a style which is not totally rap..
Snoop is another rapper who has a very "melodic" style of rapping. If he keeps this up, he's going to have to
ACTUALLY
TAKE
SINGING
LESSONS
(gasp!)

Wouldn't that be something!
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..
