who is a better vocalist: whitney, celine, mariah?!

please discuss. having more range doesn't mean that a voice has quailty. take for ex. barbara streisand.

from the 3 i listed: celine,whiteny, mariah
please discuss their vocal strong points, disadvantages, who overall has a good quality, what type of song should each stick to or now sing, etc. thanks.

WHITNEY-Was the strongest about 10 years ago. Songs like "I Have Nothing" and "All The Man That I Need" truly showed Ms. Houston could tear it up as well as tear the other two up! I remember the AMA's back in '94 when she did a medley of "Porgy & Bess/I'm Telling You, I Am Not Going/I Have Nothing"...that to me was her vocal peak! It was all sung live and she gave it all she had! I taped that and everytime I watch it I get goosebumps! Now...she cant really hold a note for that long anymore! She sounds raspier and very out-of-breath. The trainwreck that was DIVAS LAS VEGAS could've been a rebirth for her...but she came out and joined Mary J. in a SCREAMFEST and nothing more! I still love me some Whitney...(she still kicks azz with her lower register...the edgier MY LOVE IS YOUR LOVE was a great album that showcased the sultrier side of her voice..) Maybe if she gave her vocal chords a tune-up (and quit whatever drug she's been doing) AND got her shit together..she could shine again...she's only 38...if/when she's healthy again...she could really endure for a long time to come.

MARIAH-Ah...Mariah...for some reason..I always have a soft spot for l'il, insecure, Mariah! She has the range...her albums (self-titled-DAYDREAM) proved that time and time again...even though she has reported that those albums did not truly reflect her style...(Good 'ol Tommy M!) The albums that followed have seen her use less of her upper register and more of the lower eventually sounding (as someone stated here before) an injured, squeeking, animal! Too much moaning and whining these dayz! Sure she's had some bouncy, perky joints (Honey-Hearbreaker-Lover...you get the picture) but her "if-it-aint-broke-dont-fix-it" formula has worn VERY thin! I've read that she's been working with live musicians in the Bahamas and really focusing more on songwriting (and not so much sampling)...I really hope her new take on life is reflected in her music...she's no longer interesting to listen to...not that I want her go return to the goody-two-shoes of the early 90's...but if she could just get on the mic and SANG!!! Whether it be funky, slow..whateva...just sing and stop the jumping hurdles with the vocal gymnastics! Leave that shit to Christina Haguilera...

CELINE-I dont have the energy (or time) to dicuss this one...but all I will say..the song that Prince gave to her.."With This Tear" is her best song!
Every minute of last night is on my face today....

lol I love Mariah, Celine and whitney on the other hand are not really my type of music. Mariah has so much talent but her private life and appearance recieve more recognition than her music which is what I think pulls her down sometimes.
Whitney and Celine don't seem to be that good at faster songs, they're mainly only good at ballads which tend to get quite dull. Although, Whitneys earlier stuff (eg Im your baby tonight cd) did give out some good upbeat tracks. To me, Mariah can do both the ballad and the upbeat songs and I know many people would disagree with me but Mariah's music has grown and developed over the years. I don't think Celine or Whitney has presented any real musical growth, but then again the last new Whitney music i heard was back in 1998 so maybe Im wrong...

Ashk---Couldn't agree more!!

Whitney-Her 1st LP is THE MEANEST shit. This LP is her BEST without a question. I love her when she was wit Kashif, I loved her when she was wit Jermaine Jackson Oops Sorry I meant Sharriff Mohammed Jackson since the brotha became MUSLIM;), I loved her wit The Prince of the street. Ya'll should bumb that LP in yo CD players. Her best is 'You give good love' & 'Saving all my love 4 U'

Mariah-Ahhh man this sistah is 2 much 4 my cd player,,,nuff said!!

Celine--Much love but I have lost my respect 4 the woman.

I love Mariah, especially when I'm doing the dishes or housework. Now, Celine is one of my real guilty pleasures. The albums she did with Jean-Jacques Goldman (D'eux; S'il suffisait d'aimer) are (IMHO) by far her best. New Day is cool, especially the second half (apart from Nature Boy - Bad idea!!). I'll probably make a pilgrimage to Vegas ca. 2004. Should be an orgasm of bad taste and wild unhipmess.

Well I would have to say Mariah easily. I have always like MC even though I dont like alot of her production. Her best song ever was a song called VANISHING of her first CD and a track called THE WIND of her second CD, and here and there shes had a song that I feel was good enough for her, but she tries so hard at being commercial that I get annoyed. All these guest rappers and bad remixes, although some of her club mixes are good. Whitney and Celine I dotn like as people so whatever their talent I just cant deal with them so they get no love here. They do have good voices although I heard Celine on that DIVA shit and she was doing an ACDC song with ANASTACIA, oh god was it bad, not only was the idea of 2 of them dueting bad, there voices and ranges are so different, but Celine sounded bad and then tried rocking out and it was embarrassing. All 3 of them however have no stage prescence whats so ever, but MARIAH is the best to look at so it doesnt matter what she is doing on stage.

If it were up to me just give my NORAH JONES 24/7, ive already seen the girl 11 times in concert, closing in on PRINCE who ive seen 41 times.

Your secret's safe with me darlin' wink When Celine opens her beautiful mouth I'm powerless to resist. But I also dig Butthole Surfers, Melvins, Abba, Slayer and Bill Nelson's 80s work on Enigma Records, so I don't feel too bad about my Celine predelictions smile

Touche (not!). My response:

1) You think my love of Celine is a blot on my character? Well, it just gets worse. I also like Al Bano and Romina Power - really, really cheesy Italian pop, kind of 'fake Abba', if you can imagine such a thing. I also think Mireille Mathieu is a supreme genius, and that Michel Legrand is criminally underrated.

2) Now, to make you loathe me with a passion. Do I think David Hamilton is a talented artist, and that Pauline Reage is a great writer? I'm afraid the answer is 'Yes'.

3) I was only half joking about Celine's 'French Albums'. I think they're beautiful. If you like I'll send you a copy (in a brown paper wrapper, naturellement). Jean-Jacques Goldman is actually quite an interesting name to follow up. It leads to things like Khaled's Sahra, an awesome album (what a pity Prince didn't seek him out to sing on Symbol, and add a genuine Middle Eastern flavour).

4) Your real name is Cintra Wilson. Nothing will ever convince me otherwise!! And I still think you're gorgeous. Does your man know how lucky he is? smile

They all have nice voices in different ways and in sound. It's hard to pick which is best.

I prefer Mariah Carey's voice, and she was my top favorite among the other 2, although I think Whitney Houston can blow Mariah Carey and Celine Dione away.

I think Whitney Houston is the best vocalist. Sure, Mariah can hit the higher notes, but in any given song her voice is all over the place! Celine is quite good too.

Whitney has a great voice, and hopefully she'll get back on track . . .
