I would not say I am "anti-U2." I just don't get into their music.

I like some of their music, mostly their older stuff...i just think they're highly overrated. Same as the Dave Mathews Band. The music sounds good on the surface, but it doesn't go anywhere inside.

They both sellout their concerts-and the tour i saw, the ZooTV Tour and DMB's 1996 tour, i wasn't impressed at all. What people were screaming about--Dave doing this little shuffle dance every 20 seconds--i haven't a clue.

And Bono seems like a caricature of himself nowadays. Granted i thinks he's doing a lot of good for 3rd world nations bringing attention to the problems of their countries and the stress the IMF loans have created. I commend him for that...but that doesn't mean U2's new music-or DMB- gets me going one bit. I did like the "Sweetest Thing", but that was a b-side from the early 80's.

That the Edge is considered one of rock's best guitarists by many "guitar" magazines makes me ill. He plays rhythms over and over again, hardly any solos at all, and no melodies.
Maybe i'm reading too much into it, but the way the music feels is the real test.

peace

I like U2. I saw them twice last year in concert in NY & NJ. I think they are a great band again. They put out a few bad albums recently, but they seem to be back to the old U2 again with their last release.

U2 are one of the very few good bands. Bono is such a true humanitarian, and his drive in the band is so significant.

U-2 is a good band but I really like their older stuff more. I used to go to a lot of their concerts. It's seems at one time I will follow was all over the radio and also Pride In The Name Of Love. Bono is Cool he always has a positive message. U-2 is very political and they get involved with a lot of issues. They're a good band.

I like U2.

I was a huge fan of theirs for many years. I believe UNFORGETTABLE FIRE, JOSHUA TREE, & ACHTUNG BABY! were amazing albums and I'll always love them. I liked the last record as well but as far as the band goes (in the last year)...can you say OVERKILL! Since 9-11 it seems that many started looking up to them as some kind of heroes and they showed up everywhere after that!

I do acknowlege Bono's humanatarian efforts but c'mon! That TIME mag cover with Bono and a quote that said something like...CAN U2 SAVE THE WORLD? I almost vomited...I do believe music is a great form of healing but as I said earlier...C'MON!!!

I agree, U2 is one of the best bands in the world. I seen their Elevation Tour twice and you just can't beat the songs or the energy from the crowd. Can't wait for the new album.

I'm still recovering from the piece of crap that is POP. Forgive me for not getting into them, and forgive me for accusing Bono of sensationalistic attention-seeking with every cause he attaches himself to.

It's all...uh...very offensive, & they are heavily overrated. Not to say they necessarily suck. I guess I'd appreciate them a lot more if they weren't so overrated.

POP was a good experimental cd! if they just rehashed joshua tree over and over ... they like to try different directions [not unlike someone else we know?] ALL THAT YOU CAN'T LEAVE BEHIND is a classic!
and they are not over-rated!!

U2 has been a fave of mine since "Unforgettable Fire". Seen them 3 times (Joshua Tree, Zoo TV, & Elevation) and each show was amazing. Bono definitely knows how to work a crowd.

With this in mind, I do, however think they are WAY overrated. I love their songs but I don't see that much creativity coming out of them (with Achtung Baby being the exception). It's basically staright ahead political rock 'n' roll that critics seem to drool over. They are a great band that gets far too much attention in my opinion.

Prince blows The Edge off the stage with his guitar playing...there is no question.

Dave Matthews...now that guy/band is just plain boring...don't see the attraction. Their fans look like they just came from Abercrombie & Fitch just before their concerts. I went to their Chicago show a few years ago and I have never seen so many A&F baseball caps in one place outside of the store. I ended up getting incredibly drunk and threw up under my seat. It was not a good concert.

i wouldn't say that U2 is the best band in the world (i like to reserve that title for the rolling stones razz), but they are most def one of my favorite bands of all time... not including "pop"... just couldn't get into that record...

Bono is probably one of the most humble and honest artists out there in my opinion. I think he's the greatest lyricist ever. Edge's approach to the instrument is completely unique; his style is his own.

Saw the Elevation tour and the band played like it was the last day of their lives. Truly inspiring.

I like U2 and yes, Bono is attention-seeking too, but I can stomach him a lot better than some OTHER attention seekers like Piddy-da-fool (P. Diddy or whatever). I admire that U2 has been able to hang in there as long as they have, I don't like a lot of their new stuff, but that's cool. I admired how Bono took time out to console India.Arie when she didn't win her grammy as he was being called on stage. I can be too cynical sometimes, but that touched me.

U2 live is a religious experience point blank. They are old war horses who wear their sentimentality on their sleeve and they always have, it's nothing new. Bono may be ubiquitous but at least he walks the walk..and not just for his own personal gain. And it wasnt his choice to be plastered everywhere on magazines last year, its the media. And whats so wrong with being so in love with America that they felt the sting of Sept. 11 and actually became even more passionate about people because of it? They only showed up on Superpowl and some of the benefit concerts. Good lord, youre damned if you do damned if you dont. They've had some flops yes, but they also have had a return to form regardless. And good for them because songs liek Kite and Walk on are timeless and do seem out of place in this time of J-Lo and Ja-Rule, Puffy and Puddle of Mud etc.Just like Prince said " I can do U2 but can they do Housequake", can Prince do The Fly live like they do it? And to dismiss The Edge as a guitar player is as proposterous as those who dont know Prince music in depth bypassing him as a guitarist..imho.

I like U2, but over the years, I've become very tired of Bono's "world leader" image. Besides making wonderful music and many cool millions, what has Bono done that makes him a leader for international issues such as debt write-offs for third world country? He comes across as being perenially self-satisfied in his own moral authority.

man, u2 has made some mad music back in the day, but i think they're getting way too much credit nowadays. their last album ain't all that and still they're being overloaded with awards. and bono is starting to annoy me with that goody-two-shoes act. maybe he cares, but he keeps popping up at every charity event and that kinda irritates me.. sorry!

Word! Kite is the shit. as is Walk On, Peace on Earth...funk it. The whole thing was an instant classic when it dropped that fateful Tuesday when releases such as Outkast and Jay-Z etc. were set free.
