Here's how their albums rank on the all-time lists over at acclaimedmusic: For Your Pleasure: 96 Roxy Music: 210 Avalon: 299 Siren: 429 Stranded: 433 Country Life: 912 I think Stranded should be above Siren, but other than that, I agree. I consider Avalon their best. For Your Pleasure is second on my list. Flesh & Blood is their worst. Avalon is a perfect pop album, but it doesn't have one tenth the guts that the early albums do. Don't get me wrong: I love it. I'd rank it 3rd or 4th. It's definitely their most easily listenable. I'd put Flesh + Blood over Manifesto. Both have their moments, but are the black sheep in the Roxy family. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Guess that's why I like it. Early on they were too needlessly indulgent and self-consciously arty. Give me a great listenable record over pretentious stuff that's a difficult listen any day. When I come home and put my feet up, Avalon is what goes on first, ergo it's their best, for that is the point of music, after all. [Edited 12/27/05 20:01pm]

Sometimes new ground needs to be broken. I will agree with the setting for which Avalon is their most perfect album, but there are many other settings for music as well. Sometimes, a good raucous affair is needed. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

I'm guilty of that too. I lap up For Your Pleasure like a dying man in the desert. I can listen to "Editions of You" for hours on repeat. And I have. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! I'm with you Ian. Their first 3 albums are their best. "Avalon" is good, but it's not what I think of when I think of Roxy Music.

Roxy Music's debut is a masterpiece - as are their next two albums. In fact, apart from Flesh and Blood, which was patchy, I'd say that Roxy Music never made a bad album. They're recording a new album, which I'm actually looking forward to hearing. I saw them play the Koko in Camden a year ago and they were absolutely stunning. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Hah, I was quite young when I bought this on CD and thought there was something wrong with the album because the sound quality was so dysmal. So I took it back to the store.

go get the remaster. Well, the original was intentionally processed through several sound-degration stages to make some of the songs sound like they were from the 30's or the 40's. I just didn't know it at the time, and thought I has somehow got a "defected" copy.

Like I took back TWO copies of Sign "O" The Times cuz there was a scratch on the intro of Housequake  The three first albums rocks, btw.
