As far as a "civil unions," what is the problem?? Isn't there a separation of church and state? So really how do civil unions under the law for ALL couples conflict with any religious beliefs? Frankly, there are so many other political issues to talk about. In a recent election here is Texas, of course the gay-marrriage ban was one of MANY issues being considered. We received phone calls and emails about banning gay marriage issue (primarily to vote in support of the ban), but not one about the issues on that ballot concerning financing and the environment that DIRECTLY AFFECT US--NOT ONE!! (FYI:Of course Texas passed the amendment banning gay marriage even though there is already laws in place, however unenforced and archaic,concerning the lifestyle. Just for the record, in Travis County --Austin and the surrounding area-- we voted AGAINST the amendment.) It's just always interesting to me that no other "issue" was even addressed in the media. We didn't receive phone calls to support funding for environmental protection, etc.

Furthermore, if some people believe that homosexuality is a sin, then why not campaign for amendments banning other "sins"??? I wonder if there would be such support for an amendment banning divorce, for example?? In addition, I haven't received any phone calls about that or other "sexually" related transgressions. Ironically, it's just same-sex couples, wanting to make a COMMITMENT to each other, who seem to be singled-out to preserve the "sanctity" of a word at the expense of denying a group equal rights. And if religious beliefs are at its premise, the argument to ban gay "marriage" is inherently unconstitutional and obviously discriminatory because there IS a separation between church and state in this country for this very reason in order to protect the rights of EVERYONE, regardless of religious beliefs or lack thereof, and promote the common good.

Well, as someone as already mentioned, the morality of homosexuality has been (and I'm sure will be) discussed ad nauseam in the P&R section. There have been some pretty heated, but interesting debates.
