I'm still betting this won't get released as a US single. It would go NOWHERE on the US charts. Jump, on the other hand...

It's hard to predict what will do well in the States. Many people didn't think "Hung Up" would reach the Top 10.

hung up reached top10 on strength of downloads if she had released the same song b4 feb 2005 it wont even reach top20 using the old tabulations!!AL would also have been top 10 using the new tabulations!!

In the same light i think next time MJ releases a single( i am not talking about the charity single) it will debut at #1 because he can real well on itunes!!

hung up has a airplay audience of less then 20million

"call my name" had audience in the same range

Yes, but don't you think the charts are better off including sales in their calculations? A chart determined solely by radio play does not represent what people truly want.

Exactly, people can request Madonna at radio stations but if the djs don't want to play it, then they wont. And that's hardly a fair way to show people what the hot songs are.
Sales show what people actually buy as opposed to what's rammed down your throat.

yes they represent the consumers rather then radio execs who have conflicting agendas!! I am all for downloads

since 1998 H100 were purely based on airplay
and b4 1998 the H100 would not count songs not released as physical singles

Therefore, "Hung Up" is a legitimate hit!

I, too, am happy about downloads being included in the charts. It only makes sense to factor in what people buy. I say the charts should be based entirely on sales, as they are for albums.

before the late 90s the charts were more sales less airplay.

most of the world is determined by sales... which truely shows what people want rather what cooperations want us to here.

once again asg doesn't want Madonna do get her due.

The new formula is better for sales then even pre 1998
500downloads equal to 1mil audience

b4 1998 1000 single sales equal to 1mil audience

I am happy clear channel doesnt determine the charts as much actually i filed a complaint with the FCC but they did nothing about it!!

Radio stations r losing listners and they might be forced to change the play list.
xm and sirus r also playing broader music which also gets counted

nod It's good for the industry. Also, with the advent of the Internet, "buzzworthy" artists without major promotion can score chart entries on the strength of sales that previously would be unlikely to be released as physical singles.

um, that 4 million figure was a rumour posted by a fanatic on a Madonna website. She's only sold max 200,000 in the UK and 600,000 in the US, she isnt popular in Japan and the emerging markets the way Mariah is. She isnt even popular in France. I'd say 1.5-2million tops so far.

She'll drop like a bomb in the US next week! Mariah has massive coverage coming up with several awards goin out, the Grammy's etc, Dont Forget About Us is doing better than Hung Up and with the DFAU remix hitting soon and digital downloads being kick-started that song is gonna pump it right up the H100.

Im not being anti-Madonna or anything, but this has been Mariah's year. The biggest song of the decade so far and the biggest selling album worldwide of 2005.

Madonna sold 217K in the UK during her first WEEK. She's hit number 1 in over 25 countries, including France! I'm sure she's well over 2 million worldwide.

I know it shipped over 4 million in its first week, but I'm not sure about sales. I've searched through many sites but haven't found anything official.

I think it will stay at number 7 because the songs ahead of it also saw an increase in downloads.

I'm happy for Mariah, but if Madonna was a cookie cutter radio artist without risking her reputation, she would sell more than she does.

Also there's no sense in comparing Madonna and Mariah's worldwide popularity, Madonna wins hands down.

Why because she's popular in Europe. Asia is going to become one of the mammoth markets, and Madonna's not that popular there. And, doing songs like Hung Up isn't exactly cutting edge artistry.

Madonna not big in Asia? i think you are mistaken. but oh well you are probably too young to remember the new riots that happen anytime she goes to Japan. Of course it's been over 13 years since she's been there but it's ok.
