LATEST UPDATE LOOKS LIKE MADONNA IS HEADED TO #1
It’s been a close race all week between the ladies, but it looks like age and experience trumps all, as Warner Bros.’ Madonna edges her way to the top of tomorrow’s chart. Our happy number-crunchers here at HITS predict that Maddy, now a respected elder stateswoman amongst the divas, will sell 340k, beating out American Idol winner Carrie Underwood’s Arista/RMG debut release, which our crunchers predict will sell 300 to 310k, putting her way above the predicted #3 winner—Mariah Carey, who should sell between 175 and 180k copies of a new expanded version (complete with DVD) of her The Emancipation of Mimi.

I love "Jump"! This had better become a single or I'll get pissed lol

imo,Madonna's best dance songs are the ones that have a yearning, pleading melody, and "Jump" has exactly that.I can't get this song outta my head.

I'll be the same with How High

Definately. The kids have to be digging it because it's topping the TRL charts intended for the teen audience.

Everyone is posting the same comment! I could careless if the album debuts at number one....AL debuted at number one. I just hope the album has some legs so they release singles and videos. Hopefully they'll release a video collection with the AL and COAD videos....what a contrast that will be! Better yet, she'd better release a video of the tour with the documentary (which I still haven't seen) and the AL videos.

She's actually due for another video compilation. The last one ended off with Beautiful Stranger, so the next one could feature:

American Pie
Music
Don't Tell Me
WIFLFAG
Paradise (from DWT)
Die Another Day
American Life (full version)
Hollywood
Love Profusion
Bedtime Story (From RIT)
Hung Up
New Video
New Video

Ok maybe that's not enough but it would be nice if she did what Mariah is doing and rereleased COAD with a bonus dvd of videos and new tracks. I'm still not keen on the SE she has coming out despite the new track.

Correct...Hence my statement that it takes far less sales to go platinum in the US than it does in the UK...The numbers I gave were just an example...It's more like 300, 000 in the Uk and 600 to 700, 000 in the States...

I thought US platinum was 1 million. confuse

No reason for the confusion; I wasn't trying to give the exact numbers for gold and platinum certification...My whole point was that selling 200,0000 copies in the UK is comporable to selling 600, 000 copies in one week in the States, that's all. My platinum comment was a general statement...Cool? But as stated before, Madonna still is showcasing her logevity in the game...That number is nothing to be ashamed of...

More like a million, since the US has about 5 times the population of the UK! Those are great numbers!

s'ok Murph. I'm just so constantly confused by charts. I can never keep up. If I see a video on MTV, I assume it's a hit. Since I never listen to the radio and don't use iTunes, that's my barometer.

That last compilation was an absolute joke. It was pointless. It didnt support a greatest hits package, and it missed off loads of videos.

Justify My Love
This Used To be My Playground
Erotica
Deeper & Deeper
I'll Remember
You'll See
I Want You (one of my favourite maddy vids)

Then a few years later we got the ridiculous GHV2 that missed off a load of her best singles (Rain, Bad Girl, Youll See) and no new tracks. That was my madonna low point. My faith in her from that point onward wasnt restored until the ReInvention tour.

I think Jump is what will really sell the album. The album is selling now because everyone loves Hung Up and the reviews are great, but as with Ray Of Light there are five singles on here that will help the album sell steadily into next year, and I think having Jump as a really strong (if not strongest) 3rd single will really push the album from simply being a success to a ten million seller..

Jump is my favourite track, it kind of reminds me of an evolved Over & Over rather than Keep It Together. Its the kind of message that simply sums up her whole ethos, just as O&O did twenty years ago.

wow, what an odd choice. i think thats one of the worst on the album (and by worst i mean good but not as good as any of the others). i think ray of light was the first madonna album where there were no obvious single choices, she had such a wide variety of fantastic songs to choose from and she chose that confuse
