Have You Ever Been To Electric Ladyland..
Just re-discovered this tune... Has that Curtis Mayfield vibe.. Darn shame it only last at 2 minutes and 12 seconds.. Jimi sounds great overdubbing his vocals... One can only imagine if he had lived... [Edited 11/24/05 1:05am]

I think this jam inspired the later era of The Isley's. You can definetly hear where Ernie vibed some of Jimi's licks and phrasing in the solo. One of my favorite Jimi tunes. The solo guitar version (Jimi by himself)that's on the boxset is incredible.

yup Especially 'All Along The Watchtower' ... I think they adopted their sound off that solo alone....

Everything that needed to be said was done in a little over 2 minutes. Very efficient.
Another reason, for what you might consider the abrubt ending, is this beautiful day/night dream describing an idyllic location is suddenly interrupted by the memory of a particularly annoying "Electric Lady" (Crosstown Traffic). For a take which expands on the Hendrix background vocal ideas from someone who "got" that this is an albeit spacey R&B ballad at its core... http://s25.yousendit.com/...X6NZPTHBWA ...Check this Lewis Taylor version. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 [Edited 11/24/05 9:45am] "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Shame most folks who never listened to his albums have no idea Jimi made lots of smooth, "funkballad" cuts like this one. They only think he was about "Purple Haze" and the akin.
