so far the only one i've really compared with the old and new versions back to back is I've Tried Everything. They are completely different. I think there are some other slight differences on the remastered "Peace", but I *believe* "I've Tried Everything" is the only one completely different. But i'm still absorbing it and it's been a long time since i've listened to Peace, so i'm not 100% sure.

I mentioned above that about half of the tracks seem altered. "Peace Is Just a Word" has an extended outro and Annie singing an extra background melody at the end. "My True Love" has some different instrumentation. "Forever" has a horn section (kinda) in the beginning. "Lifted" has that bouncy little synth line interejected in more places.

I actually prefer the old version of "I've Tried Everything"- it sounded sincere and pleading. This summery new version seems to be contrasting the vocals! I like to think of it as a remix, though.

thanks! i figured it had been mentioned, but I didn't see it when i scanned the thread. (who would've though, a Eurythmics thread well over 200+ - - that is awesome!)

I just think of "Peace" as a continuation of what she was exploring as a solo artist, and I think Dave facilitated that. She was heading in that direction already with "We Too Are One", so it's not surprising they would make that kind of album. Taken on those terms, it's quite enjoyable I think.

I agree, and yet it does have a different feel than any of the Annie solo albums. It does have a bit more "Revenge" than "Diva" - only updated. Or, maybe a mix of "Revenge" and "Diva". Annie solo certainly wouldn't have done a track like Power to the Meek or I Want it All. There are some tracks though, like "Lifted", that could fit right onto Bare.

But although it will never be my favorite album, I think if one album benefited the most (at least in my perception) from these reissues, it would be "Peace."

and i still think 17 Again is one of their great singles. smile

lol I think Peace is the least essential REMASTER because it is different. I hope the original versions don't become obsolete with this. sad

I adore Peace. It's one of my favorite things Annie's been involved in, solo or not.

That's strange, cuz it's the one that really didn't need the remastering treatment yet.

I can totally see the elements of "Revenge" and "We Too Are One". It's like they picked up both where Eurythmics and Annie solo left off.

I think part of what makes "Peace" work too is that it doesn't seem like a forced attempt to go back and recapture something. It fits perfectly in her evolution as an artist and doesn't seem contrived at all.

You should so some research on some message boards to find out what made them include some 'tweaked' versions. Get the skinny.

Yeah, not for sound quality, but for content. For some reason, this time Peace is really hitting me in a way it never did before. I liked it, but sorta considered it... apart.... from the other D&A albums. But maybe just the fact taht it was released w/ the others at the same time, and i listened to them all in sequence as a body of work... i think Peace has finally taken its proper place with me. If that makes any sense, hehe cool

In addition to the ones I mentioned, it appears that "Power to the Meek" is substantially different as well, and "17 Again" and "I Saved the World Today" are basically extended versions of the edits available on Ultimate Collection. It's like an Underworld Peace or something!

I guess this means they weren't happy w/ the production on the original release

Maybe it's their "Pop".

Sure. That makes plenty of sense. Sometimes you just need time to get past when an album is the current release from an artist to fully appreciate it or not be disappointed. It's happened to me tons of times. "Peace" is definitely one I enjoy more the older it gets.

Very apt comparision!

If an artist is unhappy w/ the way an album comes out, i think it's kinda cool for them to tweak it a little when given the opportunity.

I agree. I loved it wholeheartedly upon its first release, though.

I have mixed feelings about it with U2. They seemed like they were apologizing for "Pop" and that part I didn't like at all.

I've been to loads of concerts in my life, and she has perhaps the most effortless live singing I've seen.

Okay, that was an awkward sentence, but you know what I mean. wink
