Can someone tell me what is the point of the Boxed Set? You know that it's digipack (cardboard sleeves) for each. Also the new Ultimate collection completely bypasses We 2 are 1. I would have much rather have seen each album released in it's entirety and a boxed set of B-Sides and rarities and toss in 1984 and Live in for good measure.
I know I shouldn't be all sour grapes...we're lucky to have gotten these at all. just sayin... Christian Zombie Vampires

ok i did a little, very very short, and very very fast summary of the reissues for my brothers new website (he has asked me to do music reviews, what better place to start than Euryhmics?) i really wanted to post something before the release, but I was too lazy to really go in depth, so I just did a very brief blurb on each record.
Anyway, here it is Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart began Eurythmics at the dawn of the 80’s out of the ashes of The Tourists, a power-pop/rock group of which both were members. Striking visually and innovative musically, Eurythmics has been one of the most influential modern-rock artists of the last 25 years. After years of anticipation, and several delays, on November 15, 2005 RCA is finally releasing digitally remastered versions of all 8 Eurythmics studio albums. Each disc is lovingly recreated with original and rare artwork, new liner notes, and several bonus tracks for each disc. Also released is a greatest hits disc called “EURYTHMICS – THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION” that surveys the duo’s past, and also provides two excellent newly recorded tracks. As Eurythmics celebrates their 25 year anniversary, we will go through each album briefly. IN THE GARDEN (1981) Eurythmics first album was a low-key affair produced by Connie Plank of Blondie fame. It failed to capture any chart success despite two excellent singles, the hypnotic and rhythmic “Never Gonna Cry Again”, and the more straightforward, melancholy rock of “Belinda”. Other key tracks were “Revenge”, “All the Young (People of Today)”, and “Take Me To Your Heart.” Lush and beautifully produced, “In the Garden” was a stellar debut that is well worth discovering, especially now that it has been reissued in such pristine quality. * * * ½ SWEET DREAMS (ARE MADE OF THIS) (1982) Made on a shoe-string budget by Dave and Annie alone with a primitive 4-track recorder in a church in France, “Sweet Dreams (are made of this)” is the album that launched Eurythmics into the stratosphere. But it was an odd album to be so commercially significant. Dark, obsessive songs about longing, pain and loneliness, “Sweet Dreams” is a wicked nightmarish ride through a troubled psyche. Two leadoff singles, “This is the House” and the subtle, sullen jazz-influenced “The Walk” failed to dent the chart. But the third single and title track, with its haunting and insistent keyboard riff, became a global number one smash. Other high points are the darkly obsessive “Love is a Stranger”, the beautiful and sad “Jennifer”, and the atmospheric album closer “This City Never Sleeps.” One of the landmark albums of the new wave era, “Sweet Dreams (are made of this)” is an extraordinary accomplishment and a testament of the duos’ creativity and versatility. * * * * * TOUCH (1983) Dave and Annie proved to be up to the daunting task of following-up their breakthrough 2nd album. “Touch” continued the duo’s most successful commercial period. The stately and gorgeous “Here Comes the Rain Again” was the first single, and a Top 10 smash. The sultry “Who’s That Girl” and exuberant “Right By Your Side” were also hits, and “Touch” remains one of the duos most successful albums. Not the bold artistic statement of “Sweet Dreams”, “Touch” was more diverse and challenging in some ways, but the material wasn’t quite as strong as its predecessor. * * * * BE YOURSELF TONIGHT (1985) After an innovative but commercially unsuccessful soundtrack for the film “1984”, Eurythmics regrouped and revamped their sound on “Be Yourself Tonight.” No longer a new wave band mostly dependant on synths, “Be Yourself Tonight” was the sound of the duo branching out and exploring other musical forms. It was a smash commercial hit. First single “Would I Lie To You?” combined a swinging Motown rhythm, Annies’ most audacious, belted vocals, crunching guitars and machine-gun horn riffs. It was a masterful initial single, and promptly jetted to the Top 5 on the US singles charts. Other singles included “There Must Be an Angel (Playing with my Heart)”, featuring Stevie Wonder on harmonica, the anthemic duet with Aretha Franklin “Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves”, and the more synth-driven “It’s Alright (Baby’s Coming Back)”. Eurythmics took a big risk by leaving their successful formula behind, but “Be Yourself Tonight” was filled with such strong material that the fans went along with the change. The final result was a stellar record, and Eurythmics expanding their musical horizons exponentially. * * * * REVENGE (1986) Eurythmics went into an even more rock and roll direction on “Revenge”, which became the best-selling album of the duo’s career. One of their most brilliant singles leads off the album – the foreboding and propulsive “Missionary Man.” Sixties pastiche “Thorn In My Side” was another smash single in Europe, and “When Tomorrow Comes” features some of the most beautiful lyrics Annie had ever written. “Revenge” was an almost complete departure from their trademark synth-driven sound, but once again the duo showed their versatility and the album was a commercial and critical success. * * * * SAVAGE (1988) After the straight-forward rock of “Revenge”, Dave and Annie delved back into their past to create their finest work: the dark, brooding, sometimes perplexing and ultimately brilliant “Savage”. Mainstream fans didn’t know what to make of the album at first, and it didn’t sell as well as prior works. But time has been kind to the album, and now it is frequently cited by die-hard fans as the duo’s best record. Mostly synth-driven, “Savage” is almost a sequel to “Sweet Dreams”, but significantly updated. One of Annie’s most painful and emotional songs, “You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart” is the highlight. Annie’s delivered a knock out Aretha-Franklin-on-acid vocal performance on “I Need a Man.” Other standouts were singles “Shame” and “Beethoven (I Love to Listen To)”, and the coolly seductive title track. * * * * * WE TOO ARE ONE (1990) Eurythmics turned to more polished pop-rock on “We Too Are One,” to mixed success. The haunted and heartbreaking “Don’t Ask Me Why” features some of Annie’s most lovelorn lyrics, and was a gorgeous first single. “The King and Queen of America,” “Angel,” “Revival” and “(My My) Baby’s Gonna Cry” were all singles and standout tracks, but “We Too Are One” often sounded a bit too polished, and lacked some of the old fire that made Eurythmics so vital. * * * PEACE (1999) After a long break in which Annie Lennox enjoyed monumental success as a solo artist, and Dave Stewart became a sought-after producer and film composer, the duo returned with the elegant “Peace.” Continuing in the vein of Annie’s solo work, and more self-assured than “We Too Are One”, “Peace” contained some of Annie’s loveliest vocals. “I Saved the World Today,” a beautifully melodic, became the first single, but it was 2nd single “17 Again,” a poignant look back at the duo’s long career, that became the album’s high point. Other notable tracks included singles “Peace is Just a Word” and “Power to the Meek”. “Peace” rarely ascended to the heights of the duo’s finest work, and was perhaps a bit too polished, but it still contained a number of top-rate tracks and some of Annie’s best vocals. * * * ½ Over time, Eurythmics have only become more noted and influential, and their music continues to be supported by a wide, growing audience. With the new reissues, the opportunity is there not only for long-time fans to upgrade their Eurythmics collection with superior sound quality discs and bonus tracks, but also allows new fans to discover this groundbreaking duo.

i just got back from town, looking for the remasterd "Savage"
and couldn't find it anywhere. they had a few other remasters but only "Sweet Dreams" "Be Yourself" and "Revenge". I would have liked to buy one of those but i've only got cash for one of them right now and i really want "Savage" so i guess i'll just have to wait until the weekend when I'll be in a bigger city and pick it up there. meanwhile i blasted the "old" Savage in my car on my way home and even appreciated "i need a man". and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Well, I got the remasters.
First thoughts: the packaging is BEAUTIFUL. Second thoughts: the sound quality is incredible. And... they took the track "Monkey Monkey" on the "Sweet Dreams" reissue directly from a vinyl copy of the single!!!! There are audible clicks and scratches. I guess they weren't able to find the master, but considered the song so important that it had to be included anyway. I have never heard of anything like this happening before - anyone else? Sounds great, but it is definitely taken from a vinyl source. [Edited 11/15/05 14:42pm]
