I know that people on this site are really passionate about music in general, and not just Prince; that's why I come to this forum regularly. I learn so much about my favorite artists that I may not have previously known (Prince, Mariah Carey, U2), learn some new insights about other artists that I may have only given a passing interest in that cause me to revisit their music (Steely Dan, Kate Bush, Tori Amos), and introduces me to music I may have not even known about (Van Hunt, Dwele, Arcade Fire).

Nevertheless, I get sort of discouraged when I see posts which appear to slam a particular artist just to get some flame war started (Madonna vs. Mariah, Mariah vs. Janet, Madonna vs. Janet, Madonna vs. Kylie, etc.). Hey, it's possible that some of us may be fans of more than one artist on these threads, and that our tastes do not have to be mutually exclusive. I love Mariah Carey myself, but that doesn't mean that I have to hate Madonna or any of her fans. Likewise, just because I love Michael Jackson's "Thriller", it doesn't mean that I condone pedophilia, nor does the fact that I like some of R. Kelly's music mean that it's okay to have freaky sex with underage girls. (Having said that, I think R. Kelly is attempting to write a pilot for a new soap opera and is wondering whether "Trapped In The Closet" will get picked up by NBC or replace "As The World Turns".)

Anyway, I just wanted to let people know that we can agree to like whatever artists we like, and even if we don't like someone else, we can agree to disagree and be civil about it.

I think a lot of hardcore fans, myself included, overreact to people's posts instead of just letting them have their own opinion. Some people go to a thread just to bait, though, and there's no getting around that.

I like Mariah, Janet and Madonna (i'm not really a fan of Kylie) so it's harder for me because all fanbases seem to clash.

All fanbases have their psycho fans so i doubt we'll ever see the end of debating between the fanbases.

But yes, i admit i get a little defensive when it comes to Madonna, so i have to learn to respect others opinions.
I didn't even bother to click on the "Madonna is shit" thread because i know it will just wind me up.

Whenever I criticize an artist there’s always an articulate fan on here who will call me on it. I wil say there is too much hate between the Diva’s, which is unfortunate.

I love Madonna, Janet and Kylie. I'd be hard-pressed to care less about Mariah, though. That said, inside I can't help but be a little happy that Mariah is successful once again, if only for her own well-being. Plus, at least she has talent.

























But Mariah sucks major ass and nothing she can do can top the other 3 mentioned.

I know it was a clever thing 2 put some R&B in her music
(Puffy,Jay-Z,Snoop) but it worked 4 me.
Charmbracelet was a disaster,I'm glad she came back with Emancipation...

Janet & madonna were already my favs in the 80's,maybe
that's why I still consider them as being the best.
Though I lost some intrest in Madonna because at a point
she tried 2 hard 2 be succesful,working with those producers
who would keep her sound frsh and succesfull.
