The Stones' "Angie" appreciation thread

A lot of people don't like this song, but I say, fuck it.

Here's to the syrupy-sweet, slightly sad but grand nonetheless, possibly-written-for-one-or-both-of-the-Bowies loveliness that is Angie.

Angie, angie, when will those clouds all disappear?
Angie, angie, where will it lead us from here?
With no loving in our souls and no money in our coats
You can’t say we’re satisfied
But angie, angie, you can’t say we never tried
Angie, you’re beautiful, but ain’t it time we said good-bye?
Angie, I still love you, remember all those nights we cried?
All the dreams we held so close seemed to all go up in smoke
Let me whisper in your ear:
Angie, angie, where will it lead us from here?
Oh, angie, don’t you weep, all your kisses still taste sweet
I hate that sadness in your eyes
But angie, angie, ain’t it time we said good-bye?
With no loving in our souls and no money in our coats
You can’t say we’re satisfied
But angie, I still love you, baby
Ev’rywhere I look I see your eyes
There ain’t a woman that comes close to you
Come on baby, dry your eyes
But angie, angie, ain’t it good to be alive?
Angie, angie, they can’t say we never tried

Love that and the Stones' version. One of their best, I'd say.

There aren't a whole lot of Stones songs that I like, but this is one of them. Beautiful song. I think of it a lot, because Alice Cooper's Only Women Bleed (a favorite of mine) sounds a good deal like it. And I dig the album cover for Goats Head Soup.

Jagger was asked about the origin of the song recently and said, 'That was one of Keith's; I just filled-in the blanks.'

It's a little corny, but it's musically pretty.

I dig Angie but the sinister sounding Dancin' With Mr. D is my song from Goats Head Soup.

I dig that song
I have a friend of mine that was totally infatuated with a girl named Angie and he use to refer to her as rolling stones song when we would talk and he didn't want other folks to know who we were talking about

I really need to start getting some stones cds. I have several in album and tape, but never really got around to upgrading to cd yet

Much love for 'Angie' here....

It is one of the most infectous tunes the Stones have made. It just grabs a hold of you if you really let it.

It's also one of my favorite sing-a-long songs in the car.

GOAT HEADS SOUP was a great album and this was one of many great gems that came from that album...plus it was released the year I was born so there's a special connection!

Its a cool song, but my Mum hates it cause shes called Angela and hates getting called Angie!

That album cover used to really scare me when i was a kid!

Is it not about George Harrisons wife or something? Or is it David Bowies? the same woman either Layla or Wonderful Tonight is about? Cant remember which, I just remember 3 songs about this one woman!

The inspiration for the lyrics have speculatively been attributed to varied sources: Keith Richards' longtime love, Anita Pallenberg; David Bowie's ex-wife, Angela Bowie; and even David Bowie himself, who Angela claimed to have once found in bed with Jagger. But Keith Richards has noted that soon before he wrote the basic chords and melody for the song, his new daughter, Angela, had been born and the name "Angie" just fit well into the music.

Hey I didn't hear that one.

In a nutshell: Bowie and Jagger are or were on again, off again bed buddies (a possibility) and "Angie" was written for DB. (not quite so likely)
