I was gonna post this as a thread with a Hey Anxiety, got this yet lol ? I saw this at Amoeba records the other day, so I picked it up & saw the price tag 134.00 & had to put it back. Not in my budget so I'm debating whether or not I save for it or buy the specific albums instead.

Think I'm going to wait for them to be released individually. I'm really only interested in picking up the mid-period albums right now (Fear of Music-Speaking in Tongues). I don't really listen to the earlier or later ones as much, and I'll be fine with the original issues and box set version of those songs for a while. I must say that I've been chomping at the bit for the Remain In Light reissue the most, because the original CD pressing has about the worst sound quality I've heard.

It's so odd with this band. As time passes, I become more and more appreciative. I was only a casual fan in the '80s, but now they just pop out at me -- geniuses with a soul.

the sound on all of them suck pretty bad, really...except, of course, for the recent box set and the reissue of "the name of this band is..." - i'm not a big fan of anything after 'speaking in tongues', but i really would like to own them all, complete with all the extras. every now and then i want to hear 'true stories'...not often, but sometimes.

Sound doesn't suck anymore. In fact the cd side is much improved in the gain and clarity dept. Bonus tracks and alternate cuts are great too. The alternate cuts are diff vocals, instruments, phrasing, etc.

The 5.1 DD mix's are superb and take many chances as Jerry Harrison supervised them. The extras are very cool too.

The high rez mix in 5.1 Dvd-audio is @ 96khz 5.1.

Some people have had trouble playing the dvd-audio portion on certain universal players.

TROUBLESOME PLAYERS INCLUDE:
Onkyo dv-sp502
Pioneer 588A and 578A
Yamaha C-750

However even as high rez snob, the 5.1 mix's on all albums are amazing. So far Fear of music has been the most surprising with tons of little nuances and buried instrumentation coming up in the mix.

Obviously Speaking and Remain will rock your socks off. Words can not do justice to how good the surround mix is. No p&8ssy rear ambient mix on these jams. Full funk spewing from upside/downside your head.

Video and booklet has copies of hand written lyrics, album cover sketches, song analysis, and great pix.

$120 w/ shipping.... don't fake the funk.. this must be the place!!
Music is the best...

I caved...and "previewed" the set.
Cannot wait to have the real CDs in hand. After I get that job.
Sound is great even in MP3 format. The earlier songs have tweaky little details (especially in the basslines) that I never noticed before.

Listening to the Television Man remix right now. Still kind of a silly song. razz

i can listen to a heads album and just focus on tina's bass and completely and utterly geek out. she's such an amazing bass player - she gets so little credit for her skills, it's criminal.

So true. Listening to "Big Daddy" right now and her rhythms are so creative. Unlike TM, this song's just gotten better with age!

I have this box set , and must say it's quite amazing. Talking Heads were always one of my favorite bands, but I haven't really listened to them that much in the last few years. this box allowed me to re-discover them all over again. They are truly one of the greatest acts of the last 30 years.

This box was one of the few times I thought 5.1 Surround Sound really worked for music. A lot of the times, i find Surround mixes to be really gimmicky, but here, it works very well . Especially on dense multi-layered albums like "Fear of Music" 'Remain in Light" and "Speaking in Tongues", where each little part gets it's own space, and you can hear how they work together

Why? Why? WHY? This happens every farkin' time I delve into somebody's catalogue. Within the past 6 months, I've bought 4 TH CD's. I've had records, cassettes, etc. I held off on CDs in case they remastered. But I could wait no longer...and now this. Bitch asses in big suits.

i've held off on buying copies of 'speaking in tongues', 'little creatures' and 'true stories' on CD (i've had 'em on cassette and/or vinyl for years) for just this reason. i couldn't hold off on 'fear of music' or 'remain in light', but i at least found 'em used for cheap. nod

This news also (taken from Teletext the other day):

DJ Fatboy Slim & Talking Heads singer David Byrne are writing a musical about former Phillipine First Lady Imelda Marcos, to be shown in March.

'Here Lies Love' will examine Mrs Marcos' passion for music and nightclubs.

Billed as a "timeless story with more contemporary resonances than are comfortable", it will premiere at Australia's Adelaide Festival.

when we were on our wrecka stow hop in MPLS this weekend, i actually looked for 'the brick', though luckily the stores didn't have it in stock. cheapo's had a copy but they'd just sold it before i asked. i'm very glad for this, because i know i would have bought that sucker, even if it was way too rich for my blood (which i know it is).
