A-ha at Irving Plaza 9/12 my review Well now that i have recovered from seeing this show, I figured I would give a few words here about it. Since this was A-ha's first USA show in 20 years, and the FIRST time I have seen them Live and in person, there isnt really anything to compare it too except maybe the Live DVDS that I have of them through the years of Various tours. A-ha is calling this the 20th Anniversary tour, or "TOURING HIGH AND LOW" as its been dubbed. This so far until next year will be the only USA date, bascially to see NYC again, and GOD did they pick a GREAT place to start. I have seen many shows in my day, including PRINCE 70 times, and I have never seen a response, like the one A-ha got, they were clearly overwhelmed by the applause, screams, yelling, and the crowd singing with them on most of the songs!! Out of the 2000 people there many from other parts of the USA since its been awhile since they played here, plus there were others all the way from Japan and germany and england. NOW THE SHOW
A-ha was in TOP form, never have I heard them sound tighter and NEVER have i heard a Band Rock Harder and Jam better!! Lead Singer Morten looks like he did in 1985, though tomorrow is his 46th Birthday!!! MAGS was the Comic Releif of the Band joking about how they like too take time between shows, so there next one should be when they are 60. MAGS also jumped around from Keyboards, piano, Guitar and Bass as did PAUL though he mostly on Guitar. The band was rounded out By there Longtime BASS PLAYER and DRUMMER, Per and Sven Lindvall, though not officially members they are on all the Albums since 1990. A-ha opened the Show with a New Track called "CELICE" the first single from their new CD called " Analogue" which will be released November 7th in Europe and as MAGS said in November in the states too. CELICE is an Uptempo Rocker, produced by FLOOD. A-ha played 4 new Tracks from the CD, best being "COZY PRISON" clearly showing all these Other bands like KEANE and COLDPLAY etc..who the Originators are! Im telling U all, when this CD comes out DONT hesitate just buy it!! A-ha mainly focused on their CDs from 1985-1993, not playing anything from there last Two Cds, which werent released in America. A-ha also through in quite alot of Album cuts too, and of course the crowd knew every word. Tracks Hunting High and Low Sun always shines on TV Take on Me Living a Boys Adventure tale Scoundrel Days Ive been losing you Weight of the Wind Living Daylights I call your name Early Morning Crying in the Rain Move to Memphis Dark is the Night (AMAZING VERSION) Manhattan Skyline (Very important in NYC) and of course 5 new songs All in all an amazing INTIMATE show, I have waited 20 years to see the Most UNDERRATED band of the last 20 years, better yet IGNORED band of 20 years. Im glad to see that UNIVERSAL USA is putting some effort into them, after all they signed them for 3 CDS and gave them a hefty check to go with it. A-ha has secured there place as MY favorite band that I have grown up with. http://cache.gettyimages....C3A62513D3 [Edited 9/13/05 21:12pm] "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F | |

Their US deal that was just signed has gotten them a seven figure advance just for the States. The label has said that the Album will be a major priority with them and getting them Video and Airplay in the USA is going to be top priority in 2006 here in the USA, look for alot of cross connections with Bands like Colplay.
