Anxiety said: i love this album! 'private revolution' will always be my favorite, but this was a really nice follow-up. the e.p. from this album, 'thank you world', ain't half bad, either. Y'know, this album has been on my back-burner for ages. I bought Private Revolution when it was released and loved it, but for whatever reason it never seemed that critical that I buy this record. I've looked it over and set it back down in 2nd hand shops about a bazillion times over the years - Lord only knows how many duff albums I've bought in the last fifteen years that I chose over Goodbye Jumbo. I've only played it a few times - first impressions: • three wonderful, instantly gratifying pop songs - Way Down Now, Message in the Box and Take It Up. I’m not a demonstrative person: I don’t dance, I don’t jump around, I barely even crack a smile during the course of a normal day, but these three tracks make me play air guitar like a madman and bob my head up and down uncontrollably. • A few slightly less loveable but still pretty darn good uptempo numbers. • Shades of Prince abounding here. Listening to the drum machine on Show Me To the Top, and that (amazingly effective) falsetto on Ain’t Gonna Come… confirms that Karl Wallinger was definitely a big fan. • Only criticism - maybe a few too many ballads/slow tempo numbers – good ballads, mind you, but perhaps a few too many. The pace on the 2nd half of the album felt slightly sleepy to me. [Edited 8/29/05 20:13pm] | |

I'm no authority on Donna Summer's material, and my version is the Australian version with a different tracklist. Regardless, it has acted as a fairly good introduction to her classic material for me. On the other hand, apparently there is a double disc compilation called Gold that is more complete. Here's the tracklist for my version: 1. Love to Love You Baby 2. Could It Be Magic 3. I Feel Love 4. Theme from the Deep (Down Deep Inside) 5. Love's Unkind 6. I Love You 7. Last Dance 8. Macarthur Park 9. Heaven Knows 10. Rumour Has It 11. Hot Stuff 12. Bad Girls 13. No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) 14. On the Radio 15. Love Is in Control (Finger on the Trigger) 16. State of Independence 17. She Works Hard for the Money 18. Dinner with Gershwin 19. This Time I Know It's for Real Bonus disc: 1. Love to Love You Baby (Original 12") 2. I Feel Love (Patrick Cowley mix) 3. Hot Stuff (Original 12") 4. No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) (Original 12") 5. On the Radio (Original 12") 6. Melody of Love (Wanna Be Loved) (Morales Classic Club mix) 7. That's the Way 8. Dream-a-lot's Theme (I Will Live for Love) Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018!
