Would you wear the paraphernalia of an artsit even if you ARE NOT a fan?

Because I saw this girl wearing a Bob Marley t shirt, which are becoming quite popular again in these parts. Just to mess with her I asked what are her favorite songs by him, knowing damn well that she didn't know diddley about the man. She replied, in a nasty way, that she don't listen to that "mess". I said, "I know you don't, you damn poser!" Then we both laughed about it.

Seriously, though, how many people on this board wear or would wear the 'nalia of an artist just because you think it's cool gear.

I need to know cuz I'm designing a way cool Usher hat and I need some folks to rock it...

very rarely. for example, i'm not a huge fan of death from above 1979 - i have their album but i don't listen to it a lot - but i HAD to have a t-shirt when i went to a music festival they played at this summer because i love the design of their album cover, and it looks tres chic on me. i'm in favor of the band, really - i'm just more about their style than their music. it doesn't happen like that for me very often, but i'll go there sometimes.

But you consider yourself a fan to some degree, so that's OK.

Never. I won't even buy a T-shirt by a band I like if it advertises an album by them that I don't have. Back in the early 90s I bought a Ministry shirt and found out later that it was taken from I think the "Everyday Is Halloween" single. I only had the 'Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste' album at the time and immediately purchased the '12 Inch Singles' comp to go along with the shirt.

NEVER in a million years! eek

I hate it when I see people wearing rock t-shirts of bands/artists that I know they know nothing about. I have to go up and quiz them about the band then. lol

biggrin

edit to ask why you would wear a Fishbone shirt when you don't even like them? hmm That would be like me going around wearing a Madonna shirt or something. lol No compute.

i've thought about wearing a ted nugent shirt, especially when i go out to dinner at my favorite local vegan diner.

unless, of course, he has his concert t-shirts made out of steaks. then never mind.

It's kind of like how people wear Che Guevara T shirts and have no idea who he is, the funny thing is they are making heaps of money off his image when he is famous for fighting capitalism neutral , even funnier is someone who saw the famous Che picture and said, "oh that guy copied Madonna's American Life cd cover"

the worst is when i see someone wearing a t-shirt of somebody/something i really like, and when i make a comment they're all, "oh, i don't know anything about it, i got it for free" or "oh, it's my girl/boyfriend's, it was just clean."

wear a damn plain t-shirt, then. you can buy a package of two at walgreen's for 3.99, sheesh.
