the 1st drum solo that made you wanna be a drummer? like the many multi-instrumentalists out there i've always loved a good drum solo as much as the lead guitar, so here are the drum solos i still love 2day

Steve Gadd -Aja - Steely Dan - his historic solo at the end... Bernard Purdie - Home At Last - Steely Dan - Oh Yeah, the Purdie shuffle... Jerome "Bigfoot" Brailey - Parliament - P Funk Earth Tour - his drumming throughout the whole album. A lot of drummers really rush the beat when they're playing live, but Jerome just lays back in the groove... Narada Michael Walden - The Dance of Life -his double bass drumming on the title track kills me! Mitch Mitchell - Jimi Hendrix Experience - Manic Depression - yup, that "Heavy Metal Jazz waltz" Buddy Miles - Band Of Gypsies - "Who Knows" -the backbeat, the backbeat.... Sly Stone or Greg Errico - "In Time" - I dunno It's Greg's kit, but sly showed him that beat, so..I dunno, both of 'em.... Peter Erskine - from Weather Report to Steps Ahead I love everything he does! Wayne Johson Trio - "Grasshopper"- drummer Bill Berg's snare is tight and nasty! William Kennedy - Yellowjackets - Four Corners and Dreamland - he was my favorite of the great Yellowjackets drummers, especially his stuff on these two albums... Dennis Chambers - man, so many --his live stuff with P-Funk in '83, or with Billy Sheehan in Niacin, or with John Scofield Morris Day - "Tricky" - The Time - Morris is a verrry underrrated drummer... Omar Hakim with Sting - I Burn For You(Live) that live solo in the film, " Bring On The Night" Stewart Copeland - shit, evrything he's done with The Police and with Stanley Clarke... Phil Collins - Genesis - Dodo, Keep It Dark, Hand in Hand-- people think he's a joke now, but he's always been one of my favorite drummers, and I love the interplay between Phil and Chester Thompson... ... Phil Collins - Genesis - Dodo, Keep It Dark, Hand in Hand-- people think he's a joke now, but he's always been one of my favorite drummers, and I love the interplay between Phil and Chester Thompson... I guess ur talking about his genesis drumming. His drumming may sound plastic, but tracks like "i wish it would rain down" has some good drumming. I would listen and just pick it up just like that.... Maybe it was because for the love of the grooves... Now, I don't think I can do it now... 
Its been a long time.... Sweet Sticky Thing is the one I enjoy the most playing.... There are others I could've listed..... Like Sly's Sing A Simple Song EWF's Live album But those are the ones I use to practice on the most... | |

Glam Slam.
the first beat that i learned to play on drums. The Cross..that's an easy one bass drum,floor tom,snare...i know how to play this one too. what i would do is sit in front of the t.v while sign of the times (the movie)playing.and when that song came on i'd grab my sticks and mimic Sheila's movements on the drums until they became my own.i still do that.  | |

irresistible bitch was probably the first drum solo that opened my ears to the drums and i'd say Lady Cab Driver would be a close second.
after that i use to play air drums to Motley Crue's "Too young to fall in love" (Tommy Lee) Where eagles Dare - Iron Madien (Nico McBrian) That drum solo during i forget which song on Exit Stage Left - Rush (Neil Peart) Masters of Puppets - Metallica (Lars) Then after my taste refined a lil bit..... | |

when i used to play drums, my absolute FAVORITE album to play to was 'are you experienced' - in particular, 'third stone from the sun'. that song is an absolute BLAST to play drums to.
not really a "solo" per se, but the drums are all over the place.... | |
