came across this song on the internet...it was never officialy released as far as I know.....it is excellent...sounds like it was from the 'ray of light' era.

"Has To Be" is on the B-side of the "Ray Of Light" single.It also appears on the Japanese import version of the Ray Of Light CD.Not a bad song at all,but it's not as interesting as the other tracks that made the album.

"The Next Best Thing" is a pleasant ballad.

LOVE both songs. Beautiful.

Madge seriously needs to release an outtakes/rarities box-set.

I never liked this song much. It wasn't nearly as vibrant as much of the stuff on ROL, so it's easy to see why she relegated it to B-side status.

People might slate me for saying this but one song I think it's better than on ROL is 'Swim'. I never ever listen to that - can't get into it.

I'd always wished "Has To Be" would've replaced "To Have and Not To Hold". That would've made ROL a perfect album 4 me. But alas, it was axed becuase Madonna wanted 13 tracks on the album. "The luckiest number of all", she said at the time. Those kooky Kabbalists.

Love them both and they both sound quite nice mixed in with the 2nd half of that album.

I really love the circulating outtakes from that album too - Revenge, Gone Gone Gone and Like a Flower. She was on fire with those sessions.

Both are very pleasent songs. Should have been included on proper albums.

Time Stood Still was written for the movie.

wasn't even a thought when ROL was made.

other songs like .... Gone Gone Gone, Revenge, Like A Flower would have been nice on the album

As great as "Has To Be" is, I'm glad it isn't on the album. That album has a nice balance of fast, edgy dance tracks and trippy, dreamy ballads. I wouldn't want it weighted too heavily towards the latter.
