I like American Life, I just think a few tracks are among the worst she's ever recorded. I like the following:

Hollywood (it's OK)
Love Profusion (pretty)
Nobody Knows Me (sounds like a Music leftover, tho)
Nothing Fails (great return to the elements that made Like A Prayer great)
Intervention
X-Static Process
Mother And Father
Easy Ride

But anyway, the album doesn't feel like a Madonna album. It wasn't edgy enough for me, which is what I mean by her image creeping in on her work. This kind of faceless strummy acoustic trash isn't really distinctive (thanks, Mirwais!) in any way, even if it is pleasant.

And the electro productions are the worst things on the record.

I just felt like the whole thing reeked of medicority, either in style, substance or just plain quality. It seems like these flop albums by Mad and Jan have really polarized fans of both. I've yet to see someone who genuinely likes both albums.

"1814" is so much more consistant then "control". Plus it has more uptempo's, with janet biting madonna on "escapade".
