From my observation, I would say that Allayiah's and voice is mediocre compared to Beyonce's voice. Beyonce has more range and is more flexible vocally than hers. However, if Allayiah's time hadn't been cut so short, her vocal cords would have devloped more and her range would have increased. Thus, she would have gave Beyonce more competition.

As for Ciara, I would say that Beyonce and Alliayah have her beat. Ciara isn't nothing more than a damn studio enhanced pop tart.

Aaliyah is awesome, but Alicia writes her own music and is all round better musician than Aaliyah. Aaliyah never wrote any of her lyrics or produced her music, her music is a refection of her producers vision. She was a good pop star alas Ciara.

Well she didn't get the chance to develop fully. Her last album had still a great number of "sneaker R'n'B" cuts, but she would have gone to a different direction. I've understood that she would have loved to have experimented with so called "white" music styles, and the excellent single "Rock The Boat" was quite different. I think she might have developed into a really good crossover artist who would have incorporated all kinds of styles into her music.

Aaliyah's sudden death was the first one that I actually reacted to with strong emotion.

I was driving and heard it on the radio and I just screamed "NO!". I was so sad.

She was my age when she died, we were born in the same year. I grew up with her music. I would listen to "At Your Best" everyday.

No, she's not overrated. I think people are really recognizing the awesome person she was in life, and that was reflected in her music. I love her.

i never even heard of her until she died. she wasnt big in australia.

If the worse you can say about Aaliyah is that she can't scream as well as Beyonce or Mariah, then that says tons more about your taste in music than her talent or what you perceive to be her lack of it. More often than not, good singing is about restraint rather than trying to blow the roof off. But, hey, if you want Mariah and Beyonce trying to outscream you to sleep, go for it!

Alicia Keys impressed me, Beyonce (a lot of people hate her) is a fucking great singer, Mariah carey as well...

I don't want to debate on what is a great singer, but i repeat Aaliyah can't be compare to these artists, when she tried to sing higher she has no "power" in her voice, nothing... She can't sing long note too...

She's overrated, if she looked like Ashanti, nobody on this board would be "She was great" and all that kind of things...
