Richard Marx appreciation

Man has a voice. And miles better then thefrog's (byran adams that is)

Not as OTT as Michael Bolton, not as rocky as mr adams or Bon jovi. Man is the right balance between pop and rock.

Fav songs:-

Lonely heart
Should of known better
Hold on to the nights
The way she loves me
Harzard
Chains around my heart
Children of the night (the ending keyobard solo cool )
Angelia
If you dont want my love
Nothin' you can do about it

and of course "satisfied". Awesome pop/rock song. Always good to work out to.

the byran adams thread got me digging up my richard marx, who is superior to adams and jovi! Funny to think David Cole (of c and c music factory) produced his fist album!

nod People can talk shit about him if they want to but he is a hell of a songwriter and vocalist. I love a lot of his love songs especially Endless Summer Nights, Hold On To The Night and Angelia. Many people don't know that he co-wrote Luther's hit Dance With My Father.

nod Sexofit, I couldn't agree with you more. Some people take issue with him b/c he's pop but oh well. Hell, he makes good ballads. Pop be damned. I'm sorry. A good song is a good song at the end of the day regardless of genres.

Yep. I agree. I had no idea he co-wrote "dance with my father". My dad loves that song. I think richard still makes albums. I heard he was backup with lional ricthie for a while. Luther got richards back. I remember luther singing on "the way she loves me" with lional ritchie. Good song. By then (1994?) he had toned down the pop rock and want more MOR. "rush street" is quite heavy in places. Plus he grew on "hazard". By far his more muture song

Yeah I love "hazard". Over in UK, the only video they show (and maybe only hit) is "right here wating". A nice track, but he is more then just power ballads. I havn't seen "satisfied" video since living in america.

St paul ripped that song off on his "down to the wire" album (by the rhythm synicate team wink ). Track is called "only reminds me of you". It is an exact copy. neutral

I prefer "children of the night" or "angelia". "lonely heart" is underated too. Love the chorus. "children of the night" is more personal to me aswell. As I feel like an outcast at times and have done for years with all the friends I left etc.....I was a child of the night literally too biggrin

"we are the children of the night, we won't go down without a fight". Optimistic song.

"angelia" has awesome bridges in it.

Lucky voices hasn't got round to hearing him then. He is as cynical as they come. Unless its subpar 80's pop like madonna, voices strangley avoids everything else 80's pop.

I dont know how u could desribe his music to any newcomers? Except that it's pop with the melody's and hooks, but mixed with rock. I think richard never pretended to be proper posey rock like bon jovi, who is too ott for me.

he rocks out on "satisfied" anyway.

Don't talk shit when you know fuck all about me, capice? Much of my fav music comes from the 80's, in case you didn't notice. Don't whine because practically no one else on the org shares your tastes.

Now, to the topic at hand. Richard Marx is a talented songwriter, I think, but I wasn't a huge fan of his music. It was tolerable, though. I think he's a much better songwriter than he is a singer.

I like Richard Marx. There, I said it. "Satisfied" used to be my favorite song of all time. I have grown out of his music, but it still holds a nostalgic place in my heart.

Marx was dropped by Capital records some years ago. His Grammy win for Dance With My Father got him signed again with a Capital subsidiary, Manhattan Records.

He's an easy target for jokes and ridicule, because he had some really cheesy singles that haven't aged well at all. The truth is that he is a good songwriter and producer, and a few of his hits still stand on their own as good singles. Don't Mean Nothing, Should've Known Better, Endless Summer Nights and Hold on to the Nights are all good pop-rock songs. I didn't much like him after his second album, but I did like Right Here Waiting the first 50 bajillion times I heard it.

i just thought of how funny it is for Prince fans to say somebody sucks because of who they are and what kind of music they sing smile man i have spent 20+ years defending Prince & his actions and telling people to give the music a chance smile i thought Prince fans would be the last to rap another artist based on things other than the music smile
