Great Album Cover: Funkadelic America Eats Its Young

Funkadelic's America Eats Its Young A powerful album title and the artwork on the cover is brilliant! The LP era was a treasure...so many powerful album covers that looked to make statements instead of using the artist's physical appearance to sell records.

"....everybody's going to make it...this time". A great LP. I just rocked this one the other day. "Loose Booty" is great and so is "That Was My Girl". It would have been great to see this record done as a musical play ala "Hair" or "Rent". "Miss Lucifer" is the jam! Eddie's crazy solo and tone fit's that song to a tee. The LP cover makes a powerful statement and unfortunately it still speaks about what's going on today.

I was talking to a Pfunk member yesterday about George. It was my first time meeting him. He's a dutch guy who is often part of the setup, he had the spade tattoo thing on his face so he was genuine. We were discussing Georges finances and he commented that George not having much money is a myth. The man has money and plenty of it. He told me the story about how George basically went to Paisley Park to work with Prince in the late 80's recorded a load of stuff there besides Cinderella Theory then pissed off and took it to another label. The man has tons of unreleased material. I also asked him about Georges distinctive scent and he laughed saying he smells like a vinyl record.

I'll be meeting the man backstage next month when he comes to London. Can't wait!

I remember first seeing this album cover when I was, like 6 or 7, back in the early seventies---scared the Hell outta Me, lol !!--In fact I think Funkadelic in general scared the hell outta me --but I was drawn to the music , even if I didn't quite understand all the concepts they were dealing with...that would come later....

Well said, spyz. All of Parliament/Funkadelic's albums had great covers. It's not too far removed from Sly's "There's A Riot Goin' On".

Thanx Black. "Riot" and "America" seems to fit the political searching and yearning folks were looking for back in those days. They were able come up with some TRUE funk through those rough times. (lol)

Man, the BEST music ever made came from this period. Even during what I call "SuperFly" days, 72-75, that period as well was killing.
