Wow- another Cure thread! woot!

I'll put them in order from least to best.

Greatest Hits: pretty pointless as everyone has been saying. The acoustic touches are nice, but don't really add much to the original recordings. The two new songs are about the only real plus. It's almost as useless as The Very Best of Prince.

Galore: This is a good overview of their KMKMKM-WMS era and Wrong Number is a nice new addition. I think it loses to the Staring At the Sea simply because not as many albums are represented.

Staring At the Sea: This is a good introduction to the band and the cassette features many essential B-sides. It's probably as good as it could be for a single album's worth of material, but there are many singles ignored due to time constraints.

Japanese Whispers: I consider this its own album too, simply because it collects songs from only a one-year period. True- all of the singles were released before, but that also was true of Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This). In any case, I absolutely adore Japanese Whispers. It's the first time they really played a trick on their audience and captures the spirit of 82-83 perfectly. nod

LOL yeah id love to make it to that too....i havent made it to that in about 2 years though...due to this job....so well see what happens. would be awesome if you came for it though!

It sounds like the perfect combination of relaxing and fun that I could really use this summer. I hope we both can make it!

giggle

tubing just got REAL interesting!

giggle

btw- my vote goes to Staring At The Sea. The CureHeads on here already explained why in a much more eloquent way than I could.

And, it was the first Cure thing I owned. I boughtthe tape used from a record shop on MPLS on one of my 1st excursions downtown wihtout parents in highschool.

SWEET nod

dude. frank and i have been plotting a camping trip for early august, cuz our one-year annie is gonna be the last week of july and we've been talking about having a weekend in the woods since we first met (camping, that is - ya pervs)...and we've been talking about getting a bunch of friends together for a camping weekend...this sounds way too perfect. i'm SO in, with boyfriend in tow. nod

am i helping to jack my own thread? lol

We used to go tubing down the Apple River just across the border outside of Sommerset Wisconsin. BUT, that place is CRAZY. Frat boys and beerbongs EVERYWHERE. I can't believe I'm saying this, but we outgrew it a bit.

The Cannon River isn't quite as crazy, so usually once you get tubing you are able to get apart from the crowd and drink yourself silly AWAY from the crowds and the chanting of "show us yer tits."

It tends to be annual, between 8-12 people. It's just in disarray this year as the coordinators are pregnant and unable to float on a tube for 3 hours while swillin beer n stuff sigh

Hey, I've got a tie-in to make this thread appropriate. I'm taking a vow to sing the Cure during the singalong portion of the tubing excursion.
