Teach me a little about music

I'm 16 and I don't like the music these days so tell me some artist I should get to know and why.

I know I like jazz but I don't really know where to look like. The only thing I know is Miles Davis and Billy Holiday.
I just found out I like Jimi Hendrix...
And I loooove soul. Neo-soul or old soul but still it's hard to know where to start looking.
And I love funk, Chic, Sly and the family Stone.
But hey, I'm 16 I can still discover new genres...
Oh yeah I also like that poppy-rock music like Zita Swoon and Ozark Henry but I doubt if you know that. They're from Belguim. Now that I mention it I laso love Zap Mama also from Belguim.

If you like funk, start with a group like Parliament. If you like female funk artists, go with Betty Davis (the former wife of Miles Davis).

Since you mentioned Chic, you should really check out the albums C'est Chic (1978) and Risqué (1979). Both of which are great. Their compilation The Best of Chic, Vols. 1 & 2 are nice starters as well.

An artist you need to know about is Stevie Wonder. Very prolific artist. Great albums. Check out the albums Innervisions, Songs In The Key of Life, Talking Book and Hotter Than July. But there's so many great albums of his to start with.

If you like soul, then you check out a woman named Meshell Ndegeocello. I recommend listening to her first album "Plantation Lullabies" (1993). Lots of great grooves on that album.

These are just some in a sea of many.
