doh! WHY??? Why do I keep missing these threads????!!!!

As the ambassador and historian and obsessive fan on New Wave on prince.org, it is my obligation to love Adam Ant.

He had such a unique sound: African tribal drumming, loud punk guitars, and lyrics about dark shit like alienation and having trouble with your car.

I hope he's doing well, and I await his return any day now. When I met the bassist from Bow Wow Wow, he told me that Adam is getting better. So I hope he's well enough to make some more great music.

By the way, his albums from 1979-1985 have all been remastered. Look for them at a store near you.

P DEFINATELY took from Adam dress wise and video ideas. Look at the "Goody Two Shoes" video with the two women and then look at "1999" video and even more so "Automatic". The two women in Adam's video have that "Prince look" that P went on to acquire.

I wore Adam's albums out in grade school. The radio station out here in L.A. KROQ played Adam to death. My faves are "Stand And Deliver" "Goody Two Shoes" and "Ant Music".

nod I would have to agree with you. The Automatic and the 1999 video definitely had the Adam Ant vibe going for sure. Also, my Dex had some Adam Ant vibe going as well.

Maybe you've never heard "Ant Rap?"

Actually I've been listening to this stuff a lot lately.

Dirk Wears White Sox & Kings of the Wild Frontier are both great albums. After that it's a bit more hit & miss, style over substance. Manners & Physique (produced by Andre Cymone) is absolute garbage!!

His (and the Ants') first 6 records were just remastered. Any opinions on Vive Le Rock?

I don't quite dig Ant Rap, but it may have been cutting edge for a white Englishman to be rapping in 1981.

Actually the song reminds me a bit of Release it, which came out almost 10 years later.

At the time it came out, I didn't really like Prince Charming, but now I think it's maybe the best song on the record.

I was surprised at how much I still liked Dirk Wears White Sox--I hadn't heard it in 20 years or so. It's pretty straight forward rock.

And Kings is the classic style-meets-substance moment of his career. There's a couple Ant songs which remind me of Nirvana. I doubt Kurt would have admitted to listening to him, but it makes me wonder.

It's easy to dismiss him (like people do to Prince), but the guy definitely had talent.
