Neither can I - unless you're some kind of savant, you'll have to use a web resource like Acclaimed Music or the Village Voice Pazz and Jop poll. I just went through every year since 65 and picked my favourite albums from the lists.

It's one of the first things I take notice of when I buy an album or even am thinking of buying one. I like knowing chronologically how an album relates to what was going on that year and within an artist's body of work.

I like knowing chronologically how an album relates to what was going on that year and within an artist's body of work. Generally i just remember eras, and how they fit in with where I was at that time of my life. For example, I'll always associate Maxinquaye or Plastikman's Musik with a period when I was making a career change - but I can never remember if they're from 94 or 95.

VU – White Light White Heat I find the late 60s is tricky with years. I've seen White Light/White Heat listed as both 1967 and 1968. Same with Nico's Chelsea Girl. If WL/WH counts for 1968, it would be my favorite of that year and The Doors- Strange Days would bump into the 3rd slot of 1967. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018!
