To all Musicians. WTF happen to us!!!!!

I feel the chances of anyone reading this is slim. However, I just came back from a show that I have to vent. I just played in a show tonight where i have to say most of the musicians there were so full of shit!! I've always asked myself why with so many great musicians in the world why has "real" music not made the same pop standards in the 60's in the 70's. I think I found the answer, everyone it seems is out for themselves.

Tonight was filled with "I'm the lead singer of this band, you play the shit the way I want to sing it", "I'm not signing that stupid kids drums stick unless i get paid", and if i hear anyone say they are the next prince, stevie, sting, clapton, jimi, miles, marvin, I'm going to scream. what ever happen to being yourself. What ever happen to helping other musicians because you cared about music? As Prince said "business and Art doesn't Mix"!!!

I been drinking alot tonight so I want to make it clear I'm not talking all musicians!!! I've just come around these type of people alot lately.

I got into music, because I found a family that I was looking for. Through song iI could travel around the world, I could get the girl of my dreams, my vision of my idea of a perfect world was there! I use to be amazed by the stories that Jimi sat in with Cream, Dylans wife, Clapton and others came to see Jimi's performance in the states, how Miles and Dizzy use to go to each others house and work on music, how Stevie would always come to the studio to suprise Ray, and trust me i can go on and on.

It seems the Art of music is gone, everyone is concerned about an image or money. There are many good musicians song-writers on here. I really dig u guys sounds.

Let's please make the focus the music again, and instead of putting others down, help them it will only make you better. Today I sat next to a kid and taught her how to play "heart and soul" so she could suprise her mother, and the look in her eyes when she finally and i mean finally got it was better than any note i could play or write. Thats why we should do this, I hope everyone finds that look!!

Sorry for the ramble

I'm taking this in - just like the "real" world, in the music industry there are a myriad of different people with there own motivations. Many are just in it for the love of the music. They're the real musos. But then you get the entertainers, who come alive on stage. When you become pro (I've been pro for about five years), the temptation is to adopt the airs and graces you imagine a proper muso has the right to exhibit. It's so easy to forget yourself.

It's also true however that music, like any art form, develops through struggle. And for struggle to exist, you need repression, anger and a certain attitude. It's just the way it is. If you're not one of those people, just let it wash over you. So often with these awkward individuals it's just a manifestation of insecurity. Just let them work it through. Whatever you have to do to get through...

Moreless with profession, you have individuals who are purely motivated by the art and not the monetary values (money). However, when you have people just in it a profession for the money and not for the art, their creativity starts to suffer.

totally fucken agree. i've been saying this shit for years. i've got label interest now and my aim is to do nothing less than bring back real songs that people will truly dig...there are plenty others doing it, it's just that mainstream is really shit right now and has been for a few years, generally speaking. but there are some great players/writers out there, if you go looking.

just because you write your own stuff or play your own instruments doesn't mean you're good. i'd rather listen to someone who can sing perform a song that's well-written by someone else, and produced by someone else, even on a computer, than to listen to some crap band play their crap song in a crappy way.
