1968:

VU – White Light White Heat

I find the late 60s is tricky with years. I've seen White Light/White Heat listed as both 1967 and 1968. Same with Nico's Chelsea Girl. If WL/WH counts for 1968, it would be my favorite of that year and The Doors- Strange Days would bump into the 3rd slot of 1967. nod

I had that issue a few times - I've occasionally seen The Feelies' Crazy Rhythms listed as a 79 release, in which case it wouldn't make my top three for that year - yet it's my top album for 1980. One interesting thing that happened quite often while I was putting my list together - I'd find one year bursting with quality albums (1998 for example), then discover that I could barely find anything I enjoyed the next year. Just the usual deviations from the mean in quality, I suppose.

As for wl/wh - I was positive that it was released in 68, but I see that it's given a 67 release date on the allmusic site. They're not the final authority on this, but I'm not as confident as I was...

lol I like all sorts of music, including pop. In my opinion, Kylie has led the way for pop music this decade.

You had waaaaay too much time on your hands.
tho' I battled blind
love is a fate resigned
memories mar my mind
love it is a fate resigned

Over futile odds
and laughed at by the Gods
and now the final frame

Well, I've done some digging and the consensus seems to be that White Light/White Heat was released in November 67.

Well, fuck it - I can't be arsed to revise my list. I'm just going to stick my head in the sand and pretend it came out in 68.

I'm happy with most of my list, though I'm a little uncomfortable with my 81-83 choices. I'm sure that if I went on a serious dig through my vinyl I could find something I liked more than P. Furs' Talk Talk Talk and Marshall Crenshaw's debut.

Well I'm afraid the truth is that I barely listen to Prince anymore. Other than SOTT and Come (go figure), his music barely registers on my radar these days.

Having said that, I certainly could make room for 1999, as I still love that album, even if I barely listen to it these days. I could drop the Fall album - I've got more than enough dreary indie-rock on my list as it stands.

No shame in having Prefab Sprout on that list as far as I'm concerned - they were my runners-up in 85 and 90, and the Sunday and Fall albums that I chose over Prefab are two of my top albums of all time.

I'm supposing from the Transformer avatar that you have Velvet Underground and Nico album. I suggest next you get the compilation album Nico: Classic Years then move onto live stuff.

Then there's Marble Index.....you'll love it or hate it. Everything after Chelsea is kinda hard to crack.
