Gwen Stefani and Andre 3000 - 'Long Way to Go'

I'm really enjoying this track right now. What do other people think. For me, it shows that Andre is able to incorporate things into his music that Prince has tried but hasn't been able to do it successfully. For example the use of MLK samples and record scratches. You can hear these things throughout Prince's output during the 90s, especially Emancipation and TRC. I don't think Andre will ever be as good as Prince, but he's proving that he is better able to execute things that Prince has attempted in his late 90s work (i.e. incorporating elements of hip-hop) and this song is an exemplifies this.

Anxiety

i think it's an odd song for this album, which is otherwise so light and silly and (entertainingly) superficial. i understand the idea of closing with a song that's a little on the deeper side, but the tone of the music is anything but. i can't say i dislike the song - it just sounds really out of place on this record - to me, anyway. all that said, i think there's some really good stuff going on in it.

love it!

"we've got a long way to go...when snow hits the asphalt, cold looks and bad talk come"

a smart message AND you can dance to it! and i love the beginning spoken bit...reminds me of the opening to the rhythm nation disc.

I've heard about 30 seconds of it.

And the Prince comparisons begin in 5,4,3,2,1.....

I fucking love that song!!!!

Their voices sound great on top of each other....

The music of the first verse reminds me of When Doves Cry, but most people think I am crazy... tell me something I don't know!

Took me a while to realize that it's about Black and White dating relationships. I do like this song. If more of the album had been more this way lyrically, it'd probably be better. However the music stays with the disk even if the lyrics do not.

And is Bubble Pop Electric about losing the Hymen?

any and all comparisons are fair, as she brought them on herself when she said she knew her influences for the ablum were going to be Prince, New Order, Depeche Mode, early Madonna, etc.....

I like this song, but Sega sounds like more of an influence than Prince on that one.

I really don't hear Prince that much. I hear New order, Petshop boys/dm/erasure, Madonna, Salt and Pepa...I hear the 80's in general. I also hear more Andre 3000 and Missy influences than anything.

Luxurious is the only track i'm not too fond of. That sample has been over-used. Maybe if they used it in more of a creative way I could dig it. They should have just came up with there own instrumentation along the same lines as that song.

Bubble Pop Electric is the stand out IMO.

This track gave LAMB more brownie points for me. I'm really feeling it lately.

We've got a long way to go
When snow hits the asphault
Cold looks and bad talk come

We've got a long way to go
It's beyond Martin Luther
Upgrade computer.

All men are created equal

G*d's children will live in a nation

Where they will not be judged by the color of their skin...

Go 'head y'all.

That beat is heavy. Reminds me of Kelis' "Millionaire" in some ways. Both are Prince-y.

And for the comments about it being "odd" and departing from the "light and silly vibe of the LP." Well, you need some spice with the sugar or else you'd get a toothache. Feel me. The racial commentary/societal curveball takes me back to Cree Summer's "Street Faƫrie" LP and the last song on there entitled "Curious White Boy" -- she went leftfield with that and scored!
