Mariah Carey's new song!!!

I'm not sure if this was posted already by anyone but here's her new song called "Say Something". It's a Neptunes production. Tell me what you guys think about it.

That means it was ripped from one of the preview discs sent to journalists to create advance buzz.

Anyway, this is what I was expecting from her. First single-wise, it's certainly a step up from "Through The Rain", though (not saying much).

But I consider it a huge lost opportunity. What if she had actually made this a full duet with an actual singer, and not Snoop? Luther or Brian McKnight, maybe. I think it would have actually been a good song. The rap totally ruins the flow and Snoops sounds so utterly disinterested in the proceedings that it's almost comical.

But that is why Mariah is in a rut, and will forever be in a rut - until she drops the rappers and gets back to basics. Chalk another one up for "failed comeback".

Mariah isn't in any rut!

The Music Business is full of shyt and she has had her ups and downs...she mainly went down for a minute, because she was married to a powerful man in the industry, who she 5 years later divorced!

The song is Hott!
Its nothing like she's done b4!
Its coming out at a good time also.

I can't wait for the album, should be hott!
Its very Neptunish, but thats a good thing, because Pharrell is like another Prince, music that definitely takes you on a trip and I like his style.

Lil cute self..but getting back to MIMI!
I think the song is blazin!!! and Snoop is hott at the moment once again, they work well together...so bring it on Mariah!

It's like everything she's done before. Anemic R&B/hip hop beat plus a rapper and whisper vocals?

Pharrell like Prince???? WTF??? his sound is aiight he made a few good club bangers, but by far anything that is as or will stand the test of time that the feel good shit Prince released...

as far as Mimi (Is that what she calls herself now days)

she needs to stop being lazy and get back to the well crafted production and power house vocals that made her ass famous in the 1st place. God I hope she ain't,when pushing 60 still trying to be on some thug/hoe shit...

i don't like the majority of her work. there's a few songs that are poppy and catchy and get stuck in my head now and then but for the most part she bores me. still, off the top of my head, i can think of a dozen songs on radio right now that are far worse than this track.

It's nothing special.

You say "It's a Neptunes production" like they're still creatively relevant as producers. lol

Snoop irks me for some reason, maybe because the guy is nearing 40 and is still talking about he's a crip -- that is so f**king played out. Thug glorification gets on my last nerve, it's sad Mariah's in cahoots with this madness to sell a record.

I bet you she's trying to recreate the past chart success of the "Heartbreaker (Remix feat. Snoop, Missy & Da Brat)." Not gon' happen.

I haven't even heard the song and I know she is. Despite Mariah going back to the rappers all the time, have her song with rappers done all that well? Mostly, her big songs even the rap error were very dependent on poppy dance hooks and rappers were optional (in fact, it was very easy to cut out the Jay-Z part of "Heartbreaker", for instance). Her rap remixes were always just there, but I don't think they were ever big hits, where they? Hell, any momunteum her last album had was killed off by that sort of remake of "Oh Boy", remember? Neither does anyone else!

It's shockingly not bad. Surprisingly mature. This album (which I won't buy or anything) might actually be decent.

Well, to her credit the "Fantasy (Remix feat. Ol' Dirty Bastard)" and "Honey (Bad Boy Remix)" were primarily responsible for the huge successes of those singles. I still hear the former in clubs to this day (so it has that longevity). Mariah pretty much set the stage for the pop singer/rap collabo. J.Lo took what Mariah did and ran with it.

Remember J.Lo's #1 chart smash "I'm Real (Remix w/ Ja Rule)"? That song was for Mariah, she was going to record it with Ja Rule, but it happened during her infamous "breakdown" in '01 and Mottola carted it over to J.Lo. The past few years have been very shady for Mariah because she didn't deserve the B.S. that was being pushed her way. Hopefully, she'll come out of it with this record. But, it's unlikely.

I agree---she's in a rut. It sounds just like everything else she's done. No imgination---just over produce w/ a familiar hook/melody/name and then the public is conned into thinking it's talent.

I heard differntly but I'm not into J. Lo or Mariah. I just heard it was a sample that "I'm Real" (it kind sounds like Rick James' "Mary Jane" or is it just me) used that Mariah used for "Loverboy" but then ditched in favor of a different sample (Cameo's "Candy"). You're probably right though. Either way, it sounded like dirty dealing and I'll take Mariah's side of the story of her husbands, even though most people think she is crazy. I also don't see Mariah coming through with a comeback just yet but maybe give it time.

well, hey... you take the good with the bad. she became to top-selling female artist of 90's on the back of marrying the label CEO. when she divorced him, she should have expected he and the label weren't going to as enthusiastically promote her.

I meant an artistic comeback.

And Charmbracelet going platinum is nothing compared to what she used to sell. IDJ needed to sell at least 3 million of that LP in the US just to break even and justify her contract price.

Actually it was 3 million in total, her contract is $20 million for 3 albums, her label said if they sold 3 million albums they would break even on the whole ontract, do the math. anyway no one is selling like they used to these days. when was the last time u heard someone have a diamond record? (exclude outkast and Shania because they had a double albums and soundscan double scan those disk for accreditation puroses, they only sold 5 million)

Anyway it's the lead single, maybe she wants something radio will play! I have finnaly heard the track and I think it sound kind of like "Frontin' I'll have to hear the full version with all the beat tracks and vocal tracks on it

That's right they already broke even on the contract and she only released 1 album of the 3! her last disk has old 3.5 million, when someone like Beyonce sells 6 million worldwide and is the biggest selling female artist, then yeah 3.5 aint bad, considering IDJ didn't put hardly any money into promoting the disk, IDJ and LA RIED have decided for this album they will be trippling the budget for promotion as L.A thinks this will be a huge seller..we'll see
