I would have to say Janet Jackson with Michael and Mariah close behind.

How can Prince's career possibly be taking a nose dive?? He's more popular now that he's been since the late 80's. He's been on numerous tv shows, numerous magazines, best selling concert, RRHOF, Musicology is doing better than anything he's released in years.

Maybe you guys aren't happy with what he's doing, but many are and it's reflected in his concert, magazine covers, award show performances etc.

Janet, Mariah and Whitney I'll give you, but Prince.....hardly!

i'm not too quick to say janet...one flop of an album (because of backlash, no less) does not make a nosedive. prince, mj...i think they've had the biggest nosedives.

What about Sting? Is he still "big"?

I also think Britney Spears "career" has taken a huge nose dive. It's become laughable just like her marriages have. I think much of her fan base has realized her lack of real talent and have moved on to others such as Hillary Duff and the like.

A Sting concert is still pretty big, but his last album Sacred Love, didn't sell as well as previous albums.

i don't see how Prince's career has taken a nose dive. if anything he's hot right now. Babyface is doing background work right now. He and his wife produced Soul Food (showtime) that just went off the air. If anyone Whitney, Bobby's been gone! and Mariah. Janet is still doing well even w/ the Super Bowl mess, that folks still can't let go.

Why is MJ on these lists? He still gets no.1's all over the globe. Sure, his albums don't sell like they used to but you could say that about any artist who has been making music for 20+ years.

It still went Platinum in the states, and sold more than Madonna's AL - although curiously enough most people would not be keen about putting Madonna on this list.

because, sad as it may be, he is more infamous now than famous. he should be known for his music but he only gets press when something "strange" happens. he's still the king of pop to me, though!

It's sold about 980,000, shipped way over a million (that's how certifications are determined).

Maybe if you seen how Madonna's tour went over you would understand.

And AL sold 5 million worldwide, to my knowlege more than Damita Jo

Also, it debuted at #2 on the Billboard charts with first week sales of 318,000 units. It's the second largest SoundScan week she's put together. Second only to "All For You" (which people keep forgetting was her biggest SoundScan opening week) at 608,000 units. Damita Jo had one of the biggest SoundScan opening weeks of 2004.

Damita Jo outpaced recent debuts by Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera, but it failed to reach the opening of 2001 predecessor "All for You" by 37%, and it's the only Jackson studio album in the SoundScan era to miss entering at No. 1.

[source: USA TODAY http://www.usatoday.com/l...ers_x.htm]

In addition, "Just A Little While" and "All Nite (Don't Stop)" were both major dance hits this year. Both songs went to #1 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Club Play charts becoming her 16th & 17th #1 dance singles, respectively.

All this, with scant to no commercial or promotional help from MTV on Damita Jo.

The show with her appearance on SNL was nominated for an Emmy. And the Will & Grace episode with her guest starring yielded 17 million viewers.

"I wouldn't be too quick," edit.

I hate to say it, but I am glad. Oh, how I wished for this time to come. Hopefully she will disappear, or freak out and go into porn or something.
