OutKast are the Hip-Hop Beatles!

OutKast are the hip-hop Beatles. In terms of album releases, their album styles and constant growth mirrors that of the fab 4.

1st album SouthernplayalistiCadillacMuzik/ Beatles equivalent: Meet The Beatles

Early album, the band is very young trying 2 find their voice.

2nd album Atliens/Beatles equivalent: Rubber Soul

Beginnings of experimentation and individuality, the bands wake up.

3rd album Aquemini/Beatles equivalent: Revolver

This is where they begin 2 go all out there they are still grounded and can refer 2 everyday things, but at the same time they are beginning 2 think more cosmically (e.g. Tomorrow Never Knows and Aquemini).

4th album Stankonia/Beatles eqivalent: Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band

The ultimate collaborative effort from both bands, Stankonia houses iconic songs as does Sgt Pepper.
Creates the image that will remain transfixed in societies mind.

5th album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below/Beatles equivalent: The Beatles (The White Album)

2 seperate albums, individual songs, each with the individual personalities being the centre of focus. A fragmented feel, both bare boned and epic in equal measure. Both are the result of a previously phenomenal album.

6th album who knows? Maybe OutKast will deliever us their Let it Be or hopefully, their Abbey Road....

What do y'all think?

The 'Hey Ya' video is a nice idea parodying the 'Ed Sullivan Show' appearance, and the connection ends there.

I don't agree with you, but I see what you're getting at. The Beatles started out as a great pop group and grew into a great rock band. Outkast were never really pop hook-oriented on the whole. Yeah, their style has changed, but not in the same way The Beatles did. It's not about comparing them to "our precious Beatles," I just see it differently.

Good point about the growth of OutKast, but in terms of their creativity in the studio and where they are pushing hip-hop frontiers they can be compared 2 The Beatles as trendsetters and as bands at the apex of the respective genres.

Again, it's not about The Beatles being on some plateau that Outkast will never reach, just a different change. A good change (I think), but a different change nonetheless. The Beatles didn't make any huge missteps in my mind, nor have Outkast at this point.

Personally speaking, I'd like to see a Yoko Ono step in and break them up, because I'm one of the few that would like to see them go in separate directions. I like Big Boi, but the longer they're together, the less their styles mesh. Part of that is personal preference on my part; I prefer Andre's out-there creativity and boundary pushing to Big Boi's continued need to tread hip-hop waters that have seen far too much action (smokin' up, etc). Granted this is just my opinion, but I think it's only the Andre-produced tracks on Big Boi's disc that were really memorable (particularly War and Church). A lot of people don't feel the same as I do, but I'm all for solo Andre altogether.

I'm getting off subject entirely, but that's where my mind was taking me. And not a literal Yoko to break them up, but a clean split and separate discs would be nice.

I agree but for different reasons. I think their styles are fine together, but I'd love to see Andre and Big Boi totally out there holding it down on their own; not depending on each other as some sort of crutch.
I want to see Andre to spread, spread for me. I can't- I can't wait to get him home.

OutKast like the Beastie Boys have given each other as wide a berth as possible 2 do their own individual things within their group framework.

There is no need 4 Andre 2 go solo? He can achieve all that he can within those parameters.

Only reason 2 go solo is 2 satisfy his ego or the ego of the fans.
