Ruth Copeland All the P-Funk fans out there should get with Ruth Copeland. She had 2 albums that were killing. She used Funkadelic as her band on these albums:
Self Portrait {1969} I am what I am {1971} Eddie Hazel acts a fool on "Un Bel Di", "Your love been" and "Suburban Family Lament". I am lucky 2 have "I am what I am" on wax, and i have the other on cd. If u dig early Funkadelic {like i do}, u should check Ruth Copeland albums out. I heard her on the first Parliament full length album Osmium, her singing sounded way over the top, but fun to listen to. I never got a chance to hear those two albums, can you burn me a copy?

Wow, this is first ( at least for me )? A mention of Ruth Copeland and P Funk. I looooovvvveeee to death the song " This Medal ". I was turned on to her music by the Uhuru Maggot, Rickey Vincent. He is an independent DJ who has a show on the radio station KPFA in Berkeley CA. He play nothing but classic funk, old and new, and I was just floored when he spun that record. Yep, I 'm very hip 2 Rickey. He wrote the book "Funk" which is excellent. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Wow so there are people around that have heard of her and are into her !
I discovered her the usual way through Osmium cd and its liner notes. I just have the two in one cd "Gimme Shelter" but theres some really good stuff on there. One of my faves is actually "Thanks for the birthday card" but I cringe at the fake crying at the end. Other faves are "The Silent Boatman" (of course), "I got a thing for you Daddy" and "Crying has made me stronger." I dont suppose if anyone knows whether the "Take me to Baltimore" album has made it to cd ?
