Someone said Stevie Ray Vaughn. He is a great guitarist and is excelent at what he does. He does deserve a mention even though he wasn't in the question.

Between the two, Eric and Prince, (maybe even out of the three, including SRV) I'm gonna have to go with Prince. He's MUCH more versitile on the insturment, he abuses MANY different styles, or U could say he been to a lot of different neighborhoods. Eric and Stevie however, are always on the same block, they don't go far and that bugs me....c'mon, get out some homies.

I'd put Clapton (as far as technique and ability goes) above Prince, but when you're comparing greats, who cares? Great is great, and deciding which is "greater" ultimately becomes near impossible. Though neither would be my first choice, they're excellent. That said, here are my favorites:

1 - Robert Johnson
2 - Eric Clapton
3 - Ernice Isley
4 - Prince
5 - Eddie Van Halen
