New Prince Book Celebrates "A Life in Music"

Prince Rules in Print with First-Ever "Playlist History"

The life and achievements of the year’s hottest star are celebrated in a new book entitled Prince: A Life in Music. In this, the year of his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the 20th anniversary of Purple Rain and the season of his acclaimed comeback, Prince: A Life in Music takes a look at the artist’s amazing life and work through the lens of 50 of his songs. It is a first-ever “playlist history,” and each song title documents a chapter in his eventful career.

Prince: A Life in Music is available now at Amazon.com. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0595320120/qid=1087780862/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-3467232-6283318?v=glance&s=books)

An Excerpt from the Book’s Prologue

“Na na, na na, na na, na na, BAT-MAN!”

A young boy watched with riveted fixation. This was one of his favorite shows.

“To the Batmobile,” the Caped Crusader commanded. Like the battle cry of a holy warrior, his tone bespoke both the danger and the glory of his crusade. The funky, black roadster roared off, speeding away with the heart of the young boy, drawing the little viewer deeper and deeper into the fantasy of the Dark Knight. It carried him to another dimension, a dreamy, Technicolor vision not all that far from reality.

Here was the story of an ordinary human being who, with a change of his costume, could enter a world of comic-book wonders. In the ashes of a childhood cut short by hardship, he’d found a burning self-purpose and created his own super powers. He embraced the darkness as an ally and turned his tortured soul into an agent for good. Working night after night in his solitary cave, he would prevail of his own determination and drive.

The little boy padded across the room to the piano that his father had left behind. Poking deliberately at the keys, the boy’s fingers constructed a phrase: “Na na, na na, na na, na na, BAT-MAN!”

Keep in mind that the "publisher", iUniverse, is the modern version of a vanity press - you pay them money and they'll publish your book. It's a handy way to be able to say, "look, I'm a published author!"

He was a sweaty hyena panting with sex. At his most heated moments he stripped down to only bikini underwear - zebra striped ones at that. (boy george once described him as a "midget dipped in oil and rolled in pubic hair" and the women seemed to love every moist strand.

alrighty then! eek

Prince had the whole concept figured out beforehand. The group's leader would be names Vagina, her backing group would be the Hookers and the ensuing controversy would shoot the new act straight to the top. Leveler minds prevailed however and Denise went public wit the more innocuous name Vanity. Prince added two girls from his camp as sidekicks (one white and one black of course) and he dubbed the trio Vanity 6, allegedly in reference to their "titty count.

Vagina and the Hookers...hmmm alrighty then! eek

allegedly n reference to their titty count.....hmm 3 girls..3 pairs of tits....three...six..nin...oo thats just wrong!

I have the book and I have gotten to the Revolution section of his career. It isn't the best book, but it is still a pretty fun read. And a little more positive so far than Possessed. I got a email saying my copy of THE VAULT was sent out friday before last, so I assume I'll be recieving mine very soon. smile
