Perhaps it's merely coincidental, but the few times I flip on the TV and see Madonna I hear her saying Prince-ish things.

She was talking to someone (forget who) and saying how everyone is taking their clothes off and she pushed the envelope and she's through with that now. And I thought to myself, 'Self, this sounds like Prince to me."

Then I heard her in a separate interview, I forget what she was saying, probably something about the music biz, and again, her comments almost embarassed me, it sounded like Prince was holding the cue card or something.

Has anyone else noticed that Madonna seems to be taking cues from Prince as far as the whole "I'm grown up now, raunchiness is SO outdated" thing? This seems to be a common theme now. I wish Madonna could be original for once. Sorry, had to slip that in.

Noticed it too.....who started it first, Prince or Madonna?

Like Prince, she can be quite the hypocrite. She makes all of her employees pay up if they curse. She has a "curse jar" backstage and charges people a large sum for each curse word. However, when interviewed by Diane Sawyer, she dropped the S-word...

They both pay attention to current events in pop culture and the world, and they comment on them. Some times they are in line with each other. Other times, not.

I think the only true simularities other than being born the same year is that they both had interesting childhoods and saught to break the shell that was defined for them.

The big difference between Mdadonna and Prince is that Prince can sustain a career on the frindges of mainstream and still be relavent. Maddonna MUST be in the mainstream to survive at all.

In answer to your questions yes she sounds very Prince like. The wierd thing is I have grown more appreciative of her now then back in her hell raising heyday. I guess watching every one from Janet Jackson to Christian A. trying to do what she has done sort of puts her in the proper historical light. She has taken from Prince and made her own thing however she has still learned quite alot from him.

Religious studies and name-changes. "Ester or McDonna"...she fails to fascinate me at all. Prince: oft imitated never duplicated. I notice Prince listeners often wonder what inspired this song, or that. I never wonder what inspired Maddonna's songs. With art..people will likely remember "the work"...or, "the work will speak for itself". Her art feels...well, disposable.
