Hi everyone! I'm new here... Hey guys! I'm a new fan of Prince. I'm 14, my name is Lee. I actually became a fan of Prince when I went to a Clay Aiken concert. He sang When Doves Cry, and I really liked the song, so I listened to some of Prince's other songs, and I think he's really talented! I'm probably going to go to one of his concerts this summer since a friend of mine has extra tickets. I really don't know much about him, so if you guys could fill me in, that'd be great. Anyway, just saying hello!

Hi Lee - welcome 2 The Org!

You're in for some amazing music. Since you're new to Prince, I'd suggest buying Purple Rain to start and then branching out from there.
Definitely check out his 80's albums first though, they're almost all great! The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

yes welcome! 14...WOW. Started into the P even before I did. Just so you know, most of us round here make fun/don't like/think it's blasphemous that Clay sang this song...but the fact that that perfomance turned you on to Prince...just about negates my feelings about Clay singing Doves. Soon Clay will disappear and Prince will still remain...you'll have years of enjoyment ahead of you. Oh and don't take anything you hear round here too seriously. again..welcome Christian Zombie Vampires

Soon Clay will disappear
I don't know about that...I'm a pretty huge Clay fan. But, I respect other people's oppinions. I'm glad I got into Prince!! He's an amazing performer by the looks of it.

Welcome to the Purple World! We are really glad to have you here. And yay to Clay Aiken for singing When Doves Cry so that we could get a new friend here to hang with us. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

your first mission:
find and get these 5 albums. listen to them and listen to them thoroughly in the order which they are listed. do not pass "go." do not collect $200 and a bottle of get wild cologne. if you do all of the above, stay away from the riff-raff and pay attention to us prince geeks, you'll be okay. ....welcome.

Welcome!
I'm really proud of my fellow "orgers" for not ripping on Clay for giving you an interest in Prince. And you're a smart young'un for going to the source. I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed. Clay has an amazing singing voice. What you will get from Prince will be completely different. Talent vs. genius. Keep liking Clay! And good luck with Prince...you are definitely in for some excitement! Keith/Kacey

Hey leed370, since you are fourteen, I'll act like an older uncle toward you and give you mad props for looking up the original " When doves cry " as opposed to accepting the cover. Handsclaps, one of the Mods gave you an excellent starting point for your Prince introduction. The first two albums are good and plenty years older than you are, so they may not sound like anything you listen to today, but give them a chance. If you like to jump up a few grades, listen to 1999 more than 10X's . Just about all relevant music genres are covered on that album, with the exception of country, opera, and hip-hop. Dirty Mind is an experience all on its own. Its explicitness is considerably tame when compared to some music today, but it still is prett heady for a new listner. I won't drag on much more, I'll end this by saying welcome to the " ORG ". It's a cool place to chill, but don't get upset at someone who picks on you, they're ignorant and you'll have plenty friends here who'll come to your defense. COOL!!? Cool!! Jeux Sans Frontiers

You had me at Clay Aiken. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

You guys are great here. Thank you for not giving me a hard time for liking Clay. He is very important to my musical taste (as Prince soon will be, I'm sure), and I know Prince and Clay are very different, so I know many people won't like Clay here. Thats all fine with me.

Hi Lee:
You don't know what you are in store for. You have 26 years worth of music to discover for the first time. Prince has released an album almost every year of his 26 years in the business. Some years he released a double or a triple album. One year he even released a five disc set. He even has B sides to many 45s (singles) and 12 Inches (maxi-singles) that not available on any album. You have an entire world to explore. In my opinion, you are very lucky discovering an artist for the first time that has so many albums under his belt. I discovered Jimi Hendrix after I was grown and there are not NEAR as many albums to explore. Your listening pleasures are almost endless. I started listening to Prince all the way back to his second album "Prince". I fell in love with the earlier albums immediately and couldn't wait for a new album to be released. I had to wait a whole year but as soon as you get ready for a new album, all you have to do is go to the record store and buy another one. Prince is such a popular artist that I can't think of any albums that are out of print (no longer available). If you don't see a particular album that you want, ask the record store to order it for you. When you progress to the 12 inches, you will have to buy a turntable and check the used record stores for the records. You will find that Prince crosses a wide spectrum of musical genres such as funk, rock, disco, psycadelic, ballads, house, hip hop, and even a little classical. I noticed you like "When Doves Cry". I could tell you some similar albums but I will let you develop your own taste. Hopefully you won't limit it to just one form of music. Keep your mind open to all styles and don't let anyone persuade you limit yourself to just one style. If you find that you really like Prince and continue to check this site, you will find us all, even myself arguing over whether the newest albums are up to par with the older ones. Don't let us influence you either. We are all old timers LOL and we were exposed to Prince at different times in our lives and we tend to be biased as to which styles we love the best, lord knows I can be sometimes. Don't forget, like Prince, you also are an individual so develop your own taste and opinions. Soon, you will be arguing with the best of us...LOL! Andy is a four letter word.

After reading vainandy's response, there is not much more I can add to it. Leed370, I will say that it is a good sign that someone your age has taken the time out to not only look for Prince albums, but have come to such a site as this and asked for some help in your discovery. Since he has gotten a lot of attention this year, why not give a listen to Musicology, wether you buy a CD at a store or wait to receive one at his concert. Take your time when you listen to Prince's music, no one here will be upset if you don't like everything you hear and don't let someone's biased opinion spoil your choice of music. COOL??!? Cool!!!
