what song is this?

It starts out with...
"yesterday I tried to write a novel, but I didn't know where to begin, so I laid down in the grass and tried to feel the world turn"
and then the chorus has "looking for a better place to die" in it.

I need the title.

Thanks guys!

it's 'Moonbeam Levels'.
it's an unreleased song from '82 that's been a bit of a fan favorite for years. It came close to
being included on several albums over the years, and Prince himself has mentioned that he'd
like to officially release it sometime.

Just to be pedantic - the 'A Better Place 2 Die' tag was one that came from early bootlegs, when we didn't know the real title.

The songs title is simply: 'Moonbeam Levels'.

http://www.dtt-lyrics.com...s/A-Z.html :
Moonbeam Levels
Often titled "A Better Place 2 Die" by bootleggers, this classic was recorded during the 1999 sessions. Prince played a brief part on tour in Los Angeles, March 28th, 1983. It's an excellent melodic mid-tempo rock number focusing on piano in the versus with a guitar giving the chorus added punch, similar to "Free." The lyrics dwell on imminent nuclear war destruction and looking for "a better place to die."

The Holy Purple Book:
Soften called 'Better Place 2 Die', the track was maybe a "1999" left-off.

Some segments of '3 Chains O' Gold' was based on the verses of 'Moonbeam Levels'.

According NPGOnlineLtd, 'Moonbeam Levels' is one of his (Prince) favourite song
Ain't that a bitch?

Moonbeam Levels.

It's choosing death over not living with a vagina.
See, Prince was obsessed with vaginas during that period.
It's pervasive in his songs. Moobeam levels was about death
over being VAGINAless, The Dance Electric was about electric
vaginal toys, and we all know that "There others here with Us" is
about vaginas stalking in darkness of night.

Prince truly has vision.

Anyone know where I might be able to find lyrics to the song?

Moonbeam Levels

Yesterday I tried 2 write a novel but I didn't know where 2 begin
So I laid down in the grass tryin' 2 feel the world turn
Boy loses girl in a rain storm, nuclear World War III
All that's left is pain and sorrow, as far as he's concerned

CHORUS:
He says please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me
Please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me
Please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me
I'm lookin' 4 a better place 2 die

Maybe he's lookin' 4 a different world
Maybe he's lookin' 4 a brand new high
Maybe he would like a nice condo overlookin' the rings of Saturn
Maybe he wants affection instead of a plastic life
Maybe he doesn't know what he wants at all

CHORUS

A newborn child knows nothing of destruction
Nothing of love and hate
What happens in between is a mystery
Because we don't give a damn about his fate

He said he'll never keep diaries 2 learn from his mistakes
Instead he'll just repeat all the good things that he's done
Fight 4 perfect love until it's perfect love he makes
When he's happy then his battle will be won (It's never 2 late)

Please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me
(Send your.. send 2 me)
Please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me
(Send your levels 2 me)
Please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me
(Sending me your.. send 2 me)
I'm lookin' 4 a better place 2 die (Better place 2 die)

Please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me (Oh yeah!)
Please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me {x2}
He don't, he don't, he don't really wanna die
He don't wanna, he don't wanna, he don't wanna die {x2}
He don't really wanna die
ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

'A Better Place 2 Die' would be such a better title for it.

'Moonbeam Levels' sounds like the title of a crappy B-movie.

Beautiful song, though. My second favourite out-take.

biggrin I agree!! I have the same problem with the unreleased song "A Large Room With No Light"...bootleggers called it "Welcome 2 The Ratrace" IMO, a much better title...
