"U, Me, and He" by Mtume = Prince influence

I just heard the old school 80's classic - You, Me, and He by the group Mtume (who also brought us the classic hit - Juicy) and could not help but ponder if that song was influenced by Prince. For instance, Do Me Baby comes to mind. Am I just strecthing a little with this one? LOL

I don't think he was influenced that much. Mtume had been in the business for years and his productions also has a similar sound. For example Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway's "The Closer I Get to You" (co-written by Mtume and written in '77) had the "Prince" sound all over it before Prince even developed a sound.

I'm sorry, Prince doesn't come to my mind either with "You, Me, and He".

Call me crazy but the song that crosses my mind when I hear it is not even a slow jam, it's Rick James' "1,2,3...You, Her, and Me". They are nothing alike but I think of the two songs together because of the titles.
Andy is a four letter word.
