Favourite Prince song and Why?

There are probably too many to mention, each favourite has a different meaning. But overall my favourite prince song is "Sometimes it Snows In April". This was very important to me at a specific time of my life, fantastic.

my fave is "kiss", because it's part of my childhood memories. i used to see the video for the song all the time when i was about 8 or 9 years old, and i just loved the song right away...that, and i kept wonderin how he could sing so high like a girl (i didn't know what a falsetto was yet...lol).

"Adore". Sign O The Times was my first Prince album and even at 13 years of age, I could tell I had come across a genius at the top of his game. Certain Prince songs that I used to love have faded over time, but "Adore" is an ageless, enduring classic. It will always be my favorite.

"Purple Rain". When I listened to it for the first time, it just made me look at Prince and music differently and I haven't been the same since. It still grabs me the way it did when I was younger.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Lovesexy, track 1.
Wait...u mean the whole album?
Yep, the whole shebang. My CD has only one song on it, and it's my favorite. Because it is the coolest Prince record ever - a wild, colorful ride. Never fails to put a biggrin on my face, ear to ear like. I don't know that Prince really though too much about those songs. It sounds like he just put them down off the top of his head. That's what Lovesexy is to me: a peek inside Prince's head. Lots of fun stuff going on in there.

Mountains. There are so many others I love, but Mountains, especially the long version, has everything I love about Prince's music rolled up in 10 minutes of pure bliss. I also have great memories associated with this song.

It's a tie:

The Morning Papers, because I think it's a very pretty song despite the bad rap the album gets, and because it has a lot of sentimental value to me.

Be My Mirror (if that's not obvious...), because I cried the first time I heard it and the words really mean something to me.

Joy In Repetition. The song came out at a time in my life where I was very lonely. It's a very comforting song.

Anxiety

I *SO* can't answer this question. There are so many favorites for so many moods.

Pussy Control is my favorite for shakin' my ass. dancing jig

Another Lonely Christmas has an amazingly personal meaning to me, as I heard it for the first time when I was dealing with someone's (quite literally) crippling depression, and it was the week of Christmas...I cried and cried the first time I heard that song, and it was the first time a song had really "spoken" to the place and time I was at.

Let's Go Crazy is the song that snagged my ass like a deer in the purple headlights...especially the extended version...first time I heard that shit, it was OVAH. eek

Mountains is, to me, his most spiritually beautiful song. I wish he'd play it live more often.

Play in the Sunshine makes me happiest.

See? Can't narrow it down. Couldn't even try.

"Strange But True"
Yeah I know it's from RAVE, but that was the newest Prince album when I started to get into him and when I heard this song, I think that was a defining moment of when I realised I was hooked. The song is pure and utter genius. I'm not religious but he sings the line "By the power invested in me by God all negativity bows" it's so powerful and positive. Musically and production wise it's undefiable. Stange but true!

My favorite is "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man". Why? Its just got it all. Its got the poignancy of a great ballad while at the same time being a great, up tempo rocker. I love the way Prince and Sheila performed it on the SOTT concert video. The way Sheila started that song off still gives me chills. AWSOME!!!

Purple Rain

It was a very hard time in my life and this song really gave me new strength. It was just the most powerful, comforting, inspiring, moving piece of music I'd ever heard.

Still is...

"The max"

Come on, that chorus is sheer class by Tony! Great memories bellowing those Tony lines at people when I was a kid of 6 and 7! Exact same with "Gett Off" tony chorus lines but this just takes it 4 me!

"More fuck 4 ur buck u can bet on that" (lets go!)-considering my age, people of an older generation must of thought I was mentally scarred by such a cool throwdown line-P music at an early age may do that to some u know.....

Hmmmmm is a joint with "Gett off" OK? Both songs very somular on chorus and all.....

I would have to co-sign with you on "Somtimes It Snows In April".

It reminds me of a friend of mine whom I truly loved back in 1988; I've known him since he was 4. He killed himself later that year in December. He only lived to be 18 years old.

So, everytime when I play the song and hear, "I used to cry for Tracy 'cause I want to see him again." I always replace Tracy with his name.
Everybody's free to feel good...so, be glad that you are free.

Yeah, you're gonna be pissed off when you hear that he edited DMSR at his concert last night. We don't "work your body like a whore" anymore. Among other edits. Very sad.
